Hertz Mystery Premium Vehicle

I have to say I'm a bit surprised that people feel the need to take photos to protect themselves. I'm a regular with hertz for years and never had a problem with returning a car with a scratch. Most of the times the car is being parked between 2 other cars, also the parking lots are usually badly lit, so they can hardly see anything anyway. I find the agents take more time to look at the petrol receipt then checking the car and when the final invoice is printed, it's the end of the story.

I'll normally take a few photos, especially if it's quite a new vehicle.

Thankfully I'm on a corp rate with Europcar that gives me GoZen cover for $9 a day.

A truck took off my mirror yesterday, all I needed to do with Europcar was fill in paperwork and walk away with nil to pay.

Poor passat only had 6000 on it as well

Apologies to Hijack the second topic regarding damage. To answer the OP question:

It can be any of our Prestige (BMW 118i, 320I, X3, X5 (Unlikely)) or our Fun (Mini Coopers) and Adrenalin (Toyota 86). Simply depends what the location's fleet department thinks there's excess stock of.

Is that a quote from Hertz austgap, or are you on the team?

Yes Prozac, I'm one of the staff there. Yet natural disclaimer - everything is my opinion nothing is company endorsed.

I take the Sergeant Schultz (Hogan's Heroes) approach to most things - "I know noffink"

So we cannot blame you for that really long survey Hertz sent asking whats wrong .

It only needed one question and two answers:

1. Whats wrong with Hertz

(a) Nothing, they are sweet as
(b) Fix the $%### system so I can nominate the frequent flyer program I want to use online and it actually gets used for the rental as a Presidents Circle member!

I might be slightly biased.

I have now submitted a claim to TID to cover the rental excess.

TID have approved my car excess claim, so thanks TID.

I have absolutely have no trust with Hertz anymore and will not recommend them. Even my emails to Hertz Corporate and Hertz Presidents Circle where I have requested further information with respect to the damage have been ignored. At least they could email back and say 'thanks for your email, but we can't help you'.

I am a bit surprised people feel the need to NOT take photos to protect themselves.

A quick 3 minute walkaround can save thousands of $ and the hassle of arguing

As for when the final invoice being printed and that's it, I have been told that numerous times, yet read time and time again about people getting charged months later for damage!

The benefit of Hertz' older vehicles is that they are usually so damaged, any additional damage is rarely noticed

I refuse to believe that once the car was checked and final invoice was printed, you can get charged months later for damage. People say many things, but sometimes not the whole story. I know that many return the car after they (knowingly) damaged it, then run away because they are "in a hurry" before inspection was made (at some places you can even get an invoice from front desk if you only provide the mileage) and when they later get charged for the damage they complain and blame the rental car companies.
If you are so paranoid that rental car companies are out there to get you, then you need to take photos before you drive and also when you return the car, together with the final invoice attached to every photo to prove that it was taken after the invoice was finalised. Sounds like a hassle to me.

You will never get a final invoice printed for you, not when dropping it off, its a "subject to audit" invoice and online is annotated as such. Most times, damage your not aware of comes hours to a day later in the form of a new invoice.

The two times I have had problems, Europcar Darwin rang me 4 hours after I dropped the car off claiming it was damaged, they seemed surprised when I said I had photos and I was coming down from the QP to show them, strangely by the time I got to the booth it had become a mistake!

Second time was Hertz at BNE International, dropped off. collected receipt at desk, 8 hours in Singapore noticed Credit Card was missing $500 to Hertz, saw new invoice online. Received email next day saying I had damaged it. Met with manager when back home, station supervisor was emailed photos at drop-off , when they got back from vacation two weeks later agreed I had left the car undamaged, credit returned week later.

Renting 70-80 times a year for the last decade or so, I have seen everything in that respect. Yes, I take photos.

I'm glad both cases were resolved in your favour. The result may have been similar without photos but we will never know.
I rent twice a week on a average in the last decade and I had my fair share of damaged cars during the years. Some were done by me and some by others. Always reported everything and never had a dispute I didn't win so far. I still believe in honesty and I don't take photos.

The result without photos would have been no refund, as I had no proof the car was not damaged, I was specifically told that.

There is a saying, never say never, and there is also a concept called insurance. One minute walking around the car holding the photo button down doing rapid shot on the iPAD with geotagging - priceless.

Are you sure someone actually inspected your car, approved there is no damage, gave you the final invoice and then you were later told another damage was found which you will be charged for it?
I must admit, I'm very surprised to hear that, knowing how hertz operates.
As long as someone checked the car and gave you the invoice from their own device, you have nothing to be worried about and you would win the case, even without photos.

No, there is no inspection at BNE international, you park the car and take the keys inside, it gets checked at the wash. No other way. Someone hit the car after I left. I have never had an issue at a location that does rapid return to date.

Hertz changing the damage reports to being on file versus a handwritten sheet from the wash has significantly improved things in the last few years as well.
