Hertz points now expiring after 12 months!!

My points (>3000) had also disappeared.

When I called, the agent said that the account has to have activity within 18 months. I played dumb and said "That's what I thought too!!", knowing that I had rented just over 12 months ago. Agent then said he'll talk to a supervisor, who then took over and explained that it had been reduced to 12 months in October. She had great sympathy for my situation and agreed that "some notice would have been nice".

Anyway, she re-applied the lost points and also made a new booking for me. It looks like the points have stuck but I have 6 months to use the points, and the points from my latest booking have been added.

Honestly, I can't fault Hertz - other than the poor communication. I've never had a problem with them but will happily use others if their pricing is too high. I would have been mad as hell if I'd lost the points because I made bookings using the recent Amex Thrifty deal that could have been Hertz bookings had I known about the new expiry rule.

Perhaps my experience is limited to a good branch? I tend to rent from Mitchell (ACT) and they're very good at acknowledging PC benefits. It's also easy to park my (wife's old) car there overnight. They have recently added a Thrifty franchise for some reason and now there's usually lots of vehicles available, but not much "premium". However, my rental last week didn't have a suitable car available online and that was a second bird killed during the above phone booking.

FINALLY back in business so to speak. Only place I got joy out of was the Hertz facebook (not the Australia one).

I have been trying to redeem hertz points to get rid of them...but not what when or were I try and rent a vehicle with points I get the "There are no rewards currently available for your date/time/location". Seems like Hertz is trying to scam people with lots of points out of being able to use them

Yep the availability seems very poor. I'm trying for bookings a year out in off season and I get that message.

Ha, came here with the very same question: where is the reward availability???
Anyone had any luck with it recently? What was your secret sauce for it?

There must be regional apps. The reservation page ("Make a reservation" on the opening page) I see in the app I downloaded in Aus, doesn't look like that. The other links in the app (eg from the "My Rentals" tab, lead to the same reservation page, which doesn't give an option to use points.

I have been liaising with Hertz about the lack of availability and they've been pretty useless. Apparently only Corporate locations participate, so avoid trying to use points at licensee branches. Also, codes, coupons and the like may also affect availability, even though some are auto-loaded when you log in (go figure).

They refuse to address my basic question of why I can't a find a single day for any car type at any time at any location in Australia.

Yes, the need for Corporate locations is a biggy with the program. The same goes for earning too, only certain locations / countries I.e., my upcoming rental in Slovenia earns nothing, but then were the best option available at the time so still using them. I just go BFOD these days and book what I want to drive. Any upgrade is a bonus but not expected and often not wanted e.g., where it is a much bigger car!

Back to an old question: how do you spend your points away?
Every time I'm checking options with Hertz (using web or their app) for different locations, the payment page tells that the reward booking option is unavailable for this booking. I'd like to burn away the points but how?

Sometimes using the app can help, although even that fails for me now. Try just a 1 day booking or 1 week, that's another option e.g., I have a 4 booking where if I search for day by day, it's available. If I search for the whole week (so extra days than I need) it's available. If I search for the 4 days I actually want to book, it'll offer me 1 or 2 days on points, but not the rest, or just not at all. I'm about to lose nearly 6k points, so just good riddance and I'll continue what I've been doing lately and just book whoever is best, as I'm happy getting the car I've booked. When I used to use Hertz a lot they generally were the better price anyway, but the upgrade benefit was useful as I could book a lower car.

I may have scored a unicorn. Perhaps. A few days ago I played with some options on the app and - lo and behold - it presented points as a payment option. I've now booked a NZD $700 long weekend rental for 1,650 points (their weekend rate). That's a nice little saving on that trip.

The booking confirmation still shows the payment to be made in $ but the points have been taken from the account. Let's see how it plays out at the pickup.
