PC with Hertz gets me an upgrade every single time over the past 12 months

Very low KM vehicles overseas and always a double/triple upgrade in Australia

Presidents Club with Hertz very rarely gets me an upgrade.

That is strange, I rent at least three times a week and without fail I always get an upgrade, normally more than just one class. Also they added what cars I like and dislike to my profile and in the major cities where they have them most of the time I get one of my preferences regardless of the class booked. What I don't like is when I book a car and get a small 4WD like a X Trail, in my eyes thats not an upgrade! Twice this year I've been given the 86.

Rural is a little but different but still get at least a one class upgrade.

They just need to hurry up and dump all the XR6's! I was told last week that the new VF's are being rolled out which will replace the XR6's

You've been doing a lot better than me - which model do you usually order and what do you get?

I've had everything from no upgrade to triple upgrades - it's been inconsistent.

I usually order a Corolla Auto and sometimes a larger vehicle - it's rare that I haven't gotten the upgrade, but it's jarring when you don't, and I haven't had the time on those days to argue it, so I just run with it. I wish I could guarantee the upgrade, though.

I must admit I mostly get upgraded, the Corolla with 60K on it and a stack of damage in MKY was not quite an upgrade I hoped for.

Corolla Auto normally and get Camry/Falcon/Commodore/VW Passat/BMW (ones only) Rav4, Kluger, X-trail

I don't mind the Kliger or the X-Trail or the new Rav4 actually

Personally I love the Hybrid Camry's I used to get, but I don't see many around anymore

Simply amazing on fuel for obvious reasons!

Aww, c'mon.....people pay dearly for retro these days. Consider yourself lucky!

Did they amend your profile when you called? Note that you don't need to call to amend your profile - you can do it yourself when you are logged in to Gold Plus Rewards/#1Club Gold. In my experience, I would not rely on Hertz staff to get it right.

Also, you do not necessarily need to call Hertz to get the best rate, if your profile is set up correctly with the correct insurance settings and CDP.

No.. they told me it was "too difficult" to set-up my profile in a way that would work with overseas bookings as there are hundreds of options and their system couldn't possibly work out the best price - so I should call. Sounds like complete hogwash, and I will try and update my profile tonight based on the advice in this thread. After a terrible experience with Avis at Heathrow two weeks ago I think I'll stick with Hertz, but I hate the idea of having to pick up the phone to make a booking.

SWMBO is at the point of deciding with Hertz or Europcar is the better option from VA WP.

Main use will be a 10 day rental in Namibia come mid-year. From my understanding Hertz offers "[FONT=Arial, Helvetica]Guaranteed one-car-class upgrades (to a maximum Full Size vehicle)" and Europcar "[/FONT]Free double upgrade (two categories above)".

Seems to be not catch or conditions with the Europcar offering either.

Also, Europcar mentions "Free weekend on tier upgrade". Forgive my ignorance, but what on earth does that actually mean?

Not fussed on who has better rewards etc as we rarely rent cars. More interested in the option that is likely to give us a better upgrade/better price for the upcoming need in Namibia.

All thoughts appreciated

I can't comment on Namibia, but in my experience, Europcar gives the better upgrades.........but.....I've only ever rented Hertz in AU. A recent Europcar rental in UAE supposedly got me a three level upgrade, but it still hasn't posted (just under a month down) so I can't check the category to see if it actually was a three level upgrade or whether that was BS.

I've never pressed the PC activation, but from memory Eupopcar was a fair time that needed chasing up.....but that was a number of years ago, so take more notice of other more recent responses, rather than mine!
