Booked a room at Rome Airport for 1 night, paid up front at the quoted special price of 165 Euro plus 4 Euro tax.

Received my amex statement today and I've been charged 285 Euro. Been given the run around and they expect me to call the hotel directly! I asked for it to be escalated to their supervisor, finally spoke to someone that will email the hotel manager and try and sort it out.

What's more galling is that at the moment it is that there is an even cheaper summer sale price.

Any others been treated like this? Perhaps I'm too cynical, but I'm thinking that this is a fairly regular thing and a lot of people/companies don't check their statements.

Chargeback with Amex, you've tried to get them to fix their error and they've failed. Give them a call and ask for the charge to be disputed, be prepared to provide support docs got the room rate.

Thanks, I didn't actually think of that, I'll give them the 3 days to sort it and take it from there.

I received an email this morning, computer error, excess to be refunded to my amex account.

Did the refund arrive?

The receipt issued yesterday had a credit on it for the extra amount. I'll check online when I get home tomorrow morning. Nice hotel, lousy airport, Rome is one to avoid in future.
