I wonder if the platinums will fall off so to speak with the lack of DSC offers ?I found interesting last night having flown on QF36, pretty much all upper deck in economy were platinum FFs.

You're right, especially when boarding flights, noting that SG also gets to line up in priority lines.
What would be really interesting would be the percentage of WPs in each capital city and even on some specific flights. My estimate is that CBR would have a very high percentage of WPs on peak hour flights.
Of course this data is so valuable that it would never be released.
I remember talking to a CSM on a Sunday afternoon BNE-MEL flight a while back and she mentioned that there were 40+ WPs onboard

Probably not as many as you'd think.
The way you get WP or P1 is by flying a lot, so the odds are that on any given flight you'll get quite a few, however flying itself is still a rare enough activity that the vast majority of "Frequent Flyers" simply hold the card, collect the points from shopping and haven't actually stepped foot on a plane in a long time.
If I was to put a guess on it I guess the numbers are probably 500,000SG's, about the same PS+QP, 20,000 - 30,000 WP and 2000 P1's.
Guessing of course, but I agree with your 20-30k WP, and I am fairly confident that P1's are very close to the 2k mark. But I think you overestimate the SG's - I would hazard somewhere around 50-100k.

I think that on domestic flights there are plenty during the week - but on weekends I have noticed that the CSM's iPad shows far fewer WPs... sometimes I've been the only 1.
But on International flights? I am always surprised how few people there are in the QF F lounge at MEL considering the number of flights leaving and the size of those planes. Recently I noticed that even though there were quite a few QF flights (WLG, NRT, HKG, LAX) leaving within 90 mins of each other, and LAX being the only 1 with actual F on-board, so maybe almost 1000 QF pax (assuming planes are all full), not to mention the pax from partner airlines in the lounge (CX, EK, MU etc)... the lounge had maybe 50 people max, a portion of which had a +1 with them..... and i noticed only 1 person from the lounge on my flight to NRT.... and he was also in Y with me - we left the lounge at the same time when the boarding call was made in the F lounge - when we got on board almost all of J had already boarded (assumption therefore that no one travelling in J was WP?). Anyway I know this isn't scientific but I have noticed this quite a lot.... the other explanation of course is that many WPs are so jaded they no longer enjoy the F lounge and instead want to sit around at the gate? Hard to believe.....

But if you look at just the number of people in the lounge at any one time compared to the total number of QF/JQ seats on all departing flights within a 3 hour window, for example, there are not many at all. Entire sections of the lounge are often empty, and I have never seen the dining room more than 1/2 full.Pure speculation on my part but I don't think the MEL F lounge is a good way to gauge WP numbers. Based on many, often lengthy visits I too see very few 'departures' from the MEL F lounge when non-QF OW and EK flights are called. Certainly more in SYD. I wonder if other airlines direct pax elsewhere (cost, space) or simply don't advertise there's a F lounge? I don't know as I've never checked in to a OW or EK flight in MEL (always transit) and know what I'm entitled to.
