Hi There,

I want to introduce myself.

I work for an international company and base myself in Melbourne and Paris.

I take over 100 flights per year across all continents..... unfortunately company policy says they are all in Economy, luckily I book the flights myself.

I am a Qantas and Virgin Gold FF and Burgundy with Qatar, I also am a Krisflyer member and also Delta for Skyteam as I occasionally fly Air France out of Paris.

My Next month ill be flying AF from Paris to Casablanca, then Qatar from Paris to Mumbai, JET and QF from Mumbai to Melbourne and CX from Melbourne to Dubai RTN via HKG.

I generally try to fly Oneworld where possible. I am increasingly flying Qatar as they have competitive prices and good connections out of Paris.

I most of my flights are international and not so much domestic, I am gold virgin as occasionally I fly with Etihad as I travel to the GCC a few times a year.

This year so far I have flown with Etihad, Qantas, Royal Jordanian, Saudi Arabian Airlines, Middle East Airlines, Qatar, Cathay, Dragon Air, Shanghai Airlines, and Finnair.

I am constantly looking at changing alliances to Star Alliance as they have a wider network however I am currently sticking with Oneworld.

I also travel very extensively by rail throughout Europe all the time and have an excellent understanding of the network.

Feel free to contact me to discuss anything related to this site

Welcome Superpang.

Here is an observation.

If possible, I would change your MEL-DXB-MEL flight from CX to QR. CX economy seats are non-reclining killers and the QR Y product is very good and conveniently available from MEL.

Hi Browski,

Thanks for your observation......with this one the reason why I chose CX is purely based on timings. I need to be in Melbourne on Saturday night and Dubai on Monday. CX is the only airline that offers a same day connection. The flight leaves @ 0740 and arrives in DBX @ 2050 which is perfect.

I completely agree with you that QR have the best Y product. Ive flown them twice in the past 12 months (DEL to EZE via DOH/GRU) and (CDG/DOH/HKG).

Ive also flown CX long haul a few times over the past 12 months and find their Y product to be pretty good as well and I get lounge access & Status credits as I am Sapphire Oneworld.....which is always a bonus :-).

I usually Fly OneWorld with QR as my 2nd option......that may change but my last QR experience was poor and I was stuck in Doha for 18hrs. My flight from Paris was delayed and I missed my connection to HKG after being reassured by the ground staff at CDG that I would definitely make my connection which was not the case......If they were said I may not make it I would have stayed in Paris or looked for an alternative but instead I was stuck in Doha which is one of the most boring places in the world. Plus the airport is a mess. The ground staff need some work but in the air they are fantastic. Plus once you get to Doha your options are limited as not many airlines fly there.

Hi Superpank, I fly the MEL-DXB route very often. I too like the all day flight.

Recently (2 weeks ago, in fact), I tried this alternate route. My Skyteam partner is Korean Airlines, so I can credit both GA and EK flights.

MEL-CGK on Garuda 10.40am-1.30pm
CGK-DXB on Emirates 5.45pm-11.00pm

In addition, I have been eyeing off this other route but I have not tried it yet as I believe it is alcohol free:

MEL-BWN-DXB on Royal Brunei Airlines 12.25pm-12.50am.

One final option is the EK flight to DXB via KUL. It departs MEL at 2.40am, so at least you get to spend that entire Saturday in MEL before heading off after midnight.

You'd think QF could manage to make work 1 daily flight to DXB (from any port in Oz).

Welcome to AFF,

Look forward to your input on the airlines that you travel.

QR is not one that I would even think about.
