...
I'm glad you stopped short of stating that internet access is a human right.

Mind, water for bathing isn't a human right either (clean water necessary for consumption for human health is one),...

LOL. Special offer for status holders, unlimited internet by the bottle! :)

Premium Wi-Fi already offered in Japan.

Works well for video chats and also for watching movies online. Much better speed then we currently get in Australia.

A couple of years ago now at the Hilton Shinjuku, as a lowly gold, I got 25MB/s symmetrical internet. Was pretty chuffed with that!

With relatively high data costs here in Oz, I'm wondering if we'll notice much difference with this "premium" offering. Easy to change a name and leave the connection speed as it is.

I'm not a guru at connection speeds, but at my place I get a fairly decent speed over cable, but on wireless it's woeful. Sitting right beside the router with my laptop I get on wireless 16.8/2.39Mbps (it is 3.61/? with my iPhone...which is slower than if I was on 3G) and plugged in I get 114.1/2.38Mbps. This is with only one device connected, multi devices slow it more. Would this indicate a faulty router?

Could be several reasons for the sub-par WiFi performance. Interference from other WiFi access points or other electrical equipment. Of course, the router could be faulty or even the WiFi adapter in your laptop. Strange that the speed on your iPhone is so much slower than your laptop though. Not sure what to make of that actually.

And this is the Wi-Fi currently offered to diamonds in Australia.

So from tomorrow we (hopefully) will get to enjoy the same speed like other countries in the developed world.

We are already in the second quarter and no premium wi-fi offered yet (at least not in ADL).

A couple of weeks ago (late March) the high speed at the DT in Melbourne was at 2Mbps :!:
A couple of weeks ago at Cairns Hilton, it was under 1Mbps, so don't complain! ;) I actually flagged it away and went back to using my iPhone as a hot spot to speed up a bit!

Quickest wifi is DT Melbourne, connecting to it is troublesome but once connected it flies!

I had opposite experience last month at DT Melbourne (as Diamond) where I got less than 1Mbps upload and about 0.1Mbps download. Not only the speed was terrible, it had ping of over 100ms and it was extremely inconsistent. I gave up using it to Skype and tethered my iPad to my mobile phone for a decent Skype.

In contrast, over a course of 5 days at DT Lisbon in January I consistently had over 90Mbps download and over 88Mbps upload, with ping of less than 20ms.

The totally free to anyone Internet (whether you pay the resort fee or walk in off the street) here at the SLS in Vegas is 100mbps down and 90 odd up - incredible!

Premium not free at Hilton San Francisco

Check with the front desk. If they agree, you could select Premium and your folio might be charged but then the latter should be reversed. This may happen automatically, but sometimes it may only be reversed manually at checkout (i.e. when you receive the folio the night before for express checkout, it may not be accurate).

I'd likely try and get some concrete confirmation in this case, since the person who says 'yes' to you may not be working on the day that you critically need to make sure you haven't been charged for it.

I don't think the new policy has started yet? In any case, the speed was fine but I hated having to 'log in' every 24 hours - very annoying.
