Hi All,

Rebecca here. You can call me Bec :) Im not exactly a 'frequent flyer' but travel a bit for work, both Dom & Intl.

Have been collecting & redeeming Velocity points for about 10 years & really kicking myself that I have been redeeming on Ecomony fares, not even contemplating that we could redeem on Business for a few extra points, with a bit of cash on top. It just never occurred to me to check Business.

Anyway, now that I am aware, my goal is to travel Business Class from Sydney to (anywhere in) Europe using Velocity points in the (Euro) Summer of 2019 with my husband & I also plan to book it as a surprise!

I need about another 18k points & at the 330 day out mark I think should just have enough points to book 2 x one way Business class fares to Barcelona.

For the return journey, I guess we will pay cash for one way fares. Very excited.

Welcome Bec and good luck with your goals. You'll pick up some amazing advice here so make sure you camp out in the Virgin Australia thread to get across all the basics: link your Flybuys for a few SCs and of course, points; set up Family Pooling; chase down some hotel partners (Agoda has worked well for a few people but there are many others); also don't forget you might be able to purchase points - VA offer 'Points Booster' so achieving those J-class seats might just become a bit easier.

Have you priced one way fares yet?

And dont forget eReward surveys. 6000 eReward survey points get you 2000 VA points, we do this easily every month so thats 48K VA points per year for doing surveys while watching TV.

Hi Denali :) Well, I've checked for dates as far as I can check - April 2019. I can see 139,500 points Sydney to Barcelona.
For the return journey, I am looking on Momondo for a random date in April 2019 and I see a one way trip From Instanbul to Sydney with a combination of Lufthansa & Thai Airways for $1645 USD from 'CheapTickets.com' ....
But I go to the Lufthansa site, and the Lufthansa legs alone are $4200+
hmm.
Thanks for the erewards tip :)

Welcome Bec. I hope your euro trips comes together. One way fares are expensive, particularly when you have to buy 2 of them. Have you considered using the points for 1 return reward flight and purchasing 1 return revenue fare?

Welcome Bec. Have a look at Lifemiles, very good for one way redemptions.
Free to join, I suggest you do so immediately as you have to be a member for a certain period of time before you can purchase points. You should also wait for a promo before buying points.
