Hilton Brisbane beyond June 2024

Hopefully a renovation.
I was there more than a year ago for probs the 4th time and the GM checked us in! He noted that Alex, the ex-future wife, and I had been recent visitors and asked us for our feedback. We mentioned that the rooms were starting to look a bit old and he said that while some rooms had been renovated, there would be a top-to-bottom refresh (or bottom-to-top). This was going to happen in 6 months time. Given June would be 18 months, then I reckon that's it :)

From the AFR in May last year.
To ensure its existing hotels can compete with the new wave of luxury hotels opening across the country, a new refurbishment program will soon kick off at Hilton Sydney after it was purchased last year by Hong Kong-based investment manager Baring Private Equity Asia for an Australian record $530 million.

The Hilton Brisbane is also getting a make-over, while renovations of the Hilton Perth have just been completed.

Looked a bit on the older side but service and Diamond recognition was top notch. Could make a whole dinner in the executive lounge as well.

Still, hoping the HGI would be good fill-in in the meantime

Any dates yet?
I haven’t seen anything recent, but it was expected to open in third quarter of 2024:

There was an article about the 150 Elizabeth St development that said

As well, the iconic Harry Seidler-designed hotel currently known as the Hilton Brisbane will be retained and refurbished, and will form part of the precinct.

Not sure why is said "currently known as"

My understanding is
the hotel will be refurbished but Hilton are not keen about the new increased renral cost so quite likely hotel will no longer be a Hilton branded hotel :(

That makes no sense.

Regardless of who owns it (Hilton or independent), it can still stay as a Hilton branded property and they’d be stupid not to. Most Hilton Hotels are not owned by Hilton.

What would be the motivation switching to another brand? If anything labelling it a Hilton gives it licence to charge 25-50% more than a non chain hotel, and the other major chains already have a (usually much bigger) presence in Brisbane.

I spoke to one of the managers there back in June and they said “At the moment Hilton Brisbane only has availability until end of September due to lease negotiations. The availability will open up in the next month or so”.

Haven’t heard anything else.
