Have earned heaps of Virgin SC this past year, so am qualified to comp my wife Virgin Platinum during this year.

Do comped statuses get the Hilton diamond benefit, does anyone recall?

If the option to enroll for the benefit is available when logged in online then it is available.

Seemed to recall reading here that after a lapse, it sometime was also made available?

Not these days ... it will show an indication of when the benifit may have been previously actived, even if years before instead of an option.

Wife never has points or SC as they all pool to me so I guess there is nothing stopping her opening up a new Velocity account that gets the gifted Platinum status?

No (nothing stopping her/you) and yes, soft landing on any status is my understanding

So even comped Status seems to get the soft landing - sounds handy for us.

I went from (VA-sponsored) Diamond to Silver when I "didn't quite meet the requirements to maintain my status". Only 49 nights short.

To be clear, that is a feature of the Hilton program, not Velocity.

Silver related to the 11 nights.

Yes I just mentioned my experience relating to soft landings (or lack thereof). Recent pests suggest there's been a shift in that since early 2024?

My HH Diamond (from VA WP match back in 2023) account currently says I'll drop to Silver, based on my 2024 activity... but my HH monthly statement that just came through over e-mail says I will fall to Gold, which would be OK. I guess all will be revealed in April?
