I'll be visiting NYC in July for 2 nights, the first time I've been there since 1996. As I'm HH diamond I want to stay at a hilton property.

My itinerary is: The highline, The Guggenheim, Ground Zero, General pavement pounding

There are a lot of Hilton choices, as I'm traveling by myself I'm after somewhere with a bar where I can sit at and interact with people in the evening. For that reason I'm tending towards Hilton Times Square, but I'm wondering if anyone has any recent experiences and recommendations that would help with the choice.

I'm also interested. I have 3 nights booked at Conrad New York (a Hilton property) in November, but can change it if there's somewhere else I should be staying :)

Doubletree Suites Times Square, no exec lounge but good lobby bar and location can't be beaten unless you want to avoid Times Square of course ;)

The Hilton on 6th & 53rd is my preferred Hilton in NY, stayed there 5 times, most recently last May & have a 5 night booking in June. The exec lounge used to be on the top floor, which offered amazing views of Central Park, however is now located on ground floor. Breakfast is great, although can get busy, try to avoid the older rooms, location is great, close to major sights, better IMO than staying at TSQ.

I was also thinking the mid town Hilton on 53rd would be a good option but it is showing no room availability at all for my dates.

Princess Fiona, do you think the Doubletree is better than the Times Square Hilton, and why? For cash Doubletree is $413 pn vs Hilton at $296, if I use HH points they are both 50k.

For 50k HH points I can also book a room at the Waldorf Astoria. Tempting!

The location of the Doubletree is better IMO than the Hilton Times Square at 42nd.
Have not stayed in Hilton Times Square.
The Rooms at Doubletree are very generous by New York standards, with a separate lounge. Decor is a little tired TBH but the staff are fantastic and the lobby bar is a good meeting point.
As I stated there is no exec lounge but no biggie since alcohol not usually complimentary in the US
There is a Sbarro on the adjacent corner and the Olive Garden across the road. 49th St subway is next door to the entrance.
I love the noise, hustle and bustle of Times Square and this hotel delivers it in spades. If you are after a refined boutique experience this isn't it, but if you want to be in a comfortable spacious room in the middle of the action then you will love it.
These are views from my room on my last stay

Thanks for that and the pics.

Tough choice, but as I've decided to burn my HH points before the reward categories upgrade, I am thinking I'll book the Waldorf Astoria. Just to experience the icon, and nice location on Park Ave.

ive stayed at both doubletree times square and hilton times square.

Both are in superb locations, I actually prefer Hilton Times Square which is under renovation at the moment. The new rooms look nice. The doubletree is looking rather tired in the rooms but has a nicer lobby.

Hilton Times Square is not right in the 'square' as such but just around the corner and surrounded by theatres, restaurants and take away joints. It's very very close to the Port authority bus terminal which is very convenient if going to the airport, just a 3 minute walk to get the bus.

I just booked the Waldorf Astoria for two week's time. I booked a tour for the NY Auto Show and got routed to their hotel booking engine and got a King Superior for $319 inclusive. HH updated the booking on the Hilton site a week later. As a Diamond, hoping to get an upgrade to Exec level. It's one of those hotels they say you should stay at least once in your life.

Mr. Hamilton: Would you make me a Waldorf Salad?
Basil Fawlty: Beg your pardon?
Mr. Hamilton: Get me a Waldorf Salad!
Basil Fawlty: Well, I think we just ran out of Waldorfs.

Hi I have stayed at this property twice, its right in the middle of everything. You can get out from the front and back of the hotel, I chose the back to avoid the congestion in front of the hotel on 42nd.
One of the reasons I would chose this hotel, would be as its walking distance to the station. Easy to get downtown to Macys, Penn station, ground zero. Its not as plush as some hilton hotels..
Service was good.

Would like to stay at the Waldorf Astoria for a night while we're in NY in December but the rooms are pretty expensive at the moment.

Any view on whether there might be a sale sometime this year?

I had 2 stays at the Waldorf as a diamond.Completely underwhelmed by the experience.
No point getting an Exec upgrade(or as it is Astoria floors). When they brought in that diamonds get Exec lounge access they immediately started closing the Astoria lounge at 1300-so only good for brekkie.
On my second stay I actually booked the Towers and a 1 bed suite. The DT Times Square suites are bigger and newer. In room safe was busted. One tap leaked all the time.Concierge didn't forward messages to us-we had a booking at Per Se.We notified the Concierge that they would ring the day before which they did only to have the Concierge tell them we weren't staying there. To top it all off they added a few charges to our bill after we left.Had to escalate to Hilton Head Office to have them removed.
Result-I opened a new SPG account.

Hmm. I was indecisive, now I'm just not sure.

Reading Trip Advisor there were quite a few negative reviews of the W.A. very similar to yours. Recently the tone has become far more positive and there is a rep very actively responding to each review.

I'm staying with my Waldorf booking. I've got a good price and there a lot of good reviews as well. I'm not moving in permanently(!) so I'm giving it a shot.

Why would they do this? There's no exec lounge entitlement for Diamonds at the Waldorf. No breakfast either for that matter.

I think you are incorrect. Read the last sentence.

Curious. This is on the benefits page (http://hhonors3.hilton.com/en/explore/benefits/index.html)

I have specifically not booked at Waldorf because of that.

The page I screen-grabbed is from my account page. Vave you looked at the "Hotel Benefits" section in your account, as against the generic Hilton info page?
