I'm also interested. I have 3 nights booked at Conrad New York (a Hilton property) in November, but can change it if there's somewhere else I should be staying :)

I'll also be looking on with interest. I have 4 nights at the Hilton Times Square at the end of May, heard that they are renovating the rooms but not sure if they will all be ready by then.

Scott.

to be honest the old rooms are fine anyway and they are big!

Here's a couple of shots of a room at Hilton Times Square, this is before renovations. not sure how much of the renovations are done yet

Having settled on the Waldorf Astoria, I logged in to HH reservations to find that room type available for a 50k points redemption is actually a mobility / hearing accessible with a choice of bathtub or shower.

I don't need an accessible room, but I do need the award booking.

Will it be a horrible room? What do I do? Book and tell the hotel I don't need the mobility features and hope they upgrade me to accommodate someone who does? Or is it best not to take the risk that I'll end up in a poky room on a low floor that reminds me of a nursing home?

I stayed at the Hilton New York on 6th & ? in January. Location was fine but as stated earlier the Exec Lounge is under renovation (as is some of the foyer) and the relocated lounge on the ground floor was always full. Breakfast was fine but you have to pay for drinks in the eve. My room "upgrade" was to a supposedly bigger room but what I got was two double beds, which were too small (lengthwise) for me, and the room was an adjoiner, and regrettably my neighbour had loud visitors into the early hours. Bathroom was tiny. No sign of the comp water bottles. I did get free internet. I chose this location for the lounge but would not go back. I'd look at Times Square next time.

Just checked in (Diamond HH) to the Waldorf Astoria for a 14 room-night stay, costing serious dollars. No upgrade, no lounge, nothing special at all. Oh, free wifi. The check-in girl said because I have so many nights she couldn't upgrade me.

Small rooms, two desk lamps broken, old-fashioned combo bath/shower system takes TEN minutes to reach hot water level. Imagine the waste of water going down the drain x hundreds of rooms. I asked to pay for an upgrade and was offered a handicapped room. I was very polite and courteous but I'm sure the manager was messing with me. Will not be paying a return visit on my next trip to NYC.

Anyone had any experience with upgrades at the DoubleTree Times Square?

Just checked in (Diamond HH) to the Waldorf Astoria...

That's not great news. I booked 2 nights for 50 k HH points each night as March 28 was looming. Handicapped room was only real award option. I ticked the box on "e upgrades" to deluxe room, tower and mini suite, and if I got one of those would consider it good value. My plan is to email reservations, say I don't need the handicapped room, and hope they pre-confirm an upgrade to free it up for someone who needs it.

I would say still go ahead, but be insistent about the upgrade. When we checked in last night, I didn't notice that on the initial check-in and the second time I went down to reception, both clerks only looked at the 12th floor. If they say there's no upgrade, ask them to look at other floors. I mean there are hundreds of rooms in this hotel.

I would leave and walk half a mile to The Benjamin hotel which is a fantastic gem we found last trip. Have stayed at the Waldorf and voted with my feet cutting our stay there short.

Have had a happy ending to this situation. A lovely guest services manager Phoenix responded and we were upgraded to an amazing suite in the Park Ave tower. It seems that because I booked via the New Your Auto Show link, the normal Diamond upgrade benefits don't apply. This wasn't explained at check-in. My booking was classed as a "group booking", even though it appeared in my HH account as a "normal" booking. Upgrades were offered by email but these were not applicable at check-in, which is a bit weird. But I have to revise my opinion of the Waldorf now and give it the accolades it deserves. The moral of the story; if you are anticipating an upgrade, book through the Hilton online system, not third party.

Has anyone stayed at Times Square since the renovations? Thoughts? It is this or Mid Town

Is there an executive floor? Assume no booze like the othe US Hiltons??

For what its worth....

Stayed in both the DT Chelsea and the Millenium Hilton last year.

DT Chelsea +: Quite decent rooms, did a get a high floor room facing downtown (was a Gold HH), good breakfast downstairs, helpful concierge.
-: Not a great neighborhood especially at night. Expectionally slow lifts, frustratingly so. Staff were indifferent, the night manager (had arrived at ~2300) was very unenthusiastic and kept pushing the fact that I had 1000pts instead of breakfast on my profile.

Millenium Hilton +: Really convenient location if your catching the subway uptown or around the place. New building and rooms while clearly geared for business guests yet were comfortable. Did love the indoor pool/gym.
-: Eating/drinking very expensive. Found the concierge staff a little pushy and the breakfast for golds limited and boring. No lounge either.

Have taken a punt on Hilton Times Square as Mid Town is now booked out for my nights

Hi guys'

im heading to New York with my dad in July for 3 nights and trying to decide where to stay. Ive been a few times before. Dad was keen on the Hilton midtown on Avenue of America cuz its close to the shops and city centre.

I was keen for the Waldorf Astoria but read on flyer talk that diamond privileges are very limited? (starbucks vouchers, no lounge, no breakfast?!)

Conrad is great but quite a way down in lower manhattan and away from the bright lights...

Can anyone give me a good recommendation? Am HH diamond.

Thanks!

Exec club at midtown is nice, but don't expect free booze.
I just stayed at Hilton Times Square and it was quite acceptable, although breakfast was quite limited.

Both rooms are quite big for NY.

stayed at Sofitel and was big let down

New York Times headline this morning --- no more room service at the 2000 room New York Midtown Hilton!!! apparently this will happen in August and affects 'all' 2000rooms. Replaced with a new self service Herb n' Kitchen stocked with grab-and-go items. no mention of costs of said items. Hilton spokesman said the company was evaluating its other hotels on a case-by-case basis but noted guests at the Waldorf will not be losing room service.

Currently staying at the Midtown and am not impressed. We are on high floor but room (and in particular the hallway) are tired and run down...scuff marks everywhere. Bathroom is very small. No fridge, no minibar and no tea and coffee facilities in room. Much prefer the DT Times Square where we stayed last visit though crowds can become annoying when trying to get back to hotel.
