Hilton Melbourne Airport a Hilton no more! (from 31st March 2011)

As at today the Hilton site is still taking bookings for 1st April onwards it seems.

I wonder if we already have bookings for 1st April onwards, and the reservation was a non-refundable (and no changes) conditions, would we be within our rights to cancel as the supplier is no longer the supplier i.e we ordered a Hilton branded room but got a TPR room.

You could say a room is still a room ... but a bit like ordering a Holden & getting a Ford.

Personally we select the Melb Airport Hilton Vs the HI to assist with status maintenance.

Disappointing news.

One less Hilton property, from an already diminshing list, to accumulate Hhonors points in Australia.

Stayed in it on Sunday night, probably my penultimate stay. Was actually my best stay there thus far.

If we are going to have a function for the loss of the QFF Plat benefits, perhaps some of us can get together for a final drink at the Hilton Airport bar?

Whilst I'm trying to limit my travel and Do attendance because I'm trying to save funds for a big trip, I might consider this day trip-ish "Do" only because I have a voucher that I need to redeem. I wonder if QF will let me stretch it past its due date slightly (my voucher is "valid" until 4 Mar 2011).

Excuse the ignorance.... HPC rate??

HPC = Hilton Premium Club, or rather that was the old name of the program.

It's now bundled into the Hilton Macquarie Platinum Visa Credit Card, of which the annual fee is the same as that of the old Hilton Premium Club, except now you have to apply for a credit card rather than join a subscription program (which means passing credit checks, etc.)

Both HPC and the Hilton Macquarie Platinum Visa offer 20% off stay rates for any Hilton in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Stayed there Sunday night myself + 1.
I asked about the brand change happening and was told as at April.
I asked (at the front desk) about future bookings I have past that date and was told "they {the new brand} will probably honour the bookings" ... when I pressed for more info, they all just shrugged and said they didn't know anything else.

In short, my stay was very nice as well and we were looked after. Having used the Melb airport Hilton now about 6 times I can say each one has been more than fine for what it is.

Only gripe ... the Sauna seems to be always less that hot even when left on for about 60 mins. The steam room is nice to use though.

Well, when you consider they added a property (Surfers Paradise) in December, it's a nil sum game taking MEL Airport.

Now that's a thought - a drink at that bar and mini Do there to welcome it to the Hilton properties :D - funny, I thought I'd had an email from HPC that it had opened in December, but the Hilton website says July 2011

Hilton Surfers Paradise Hotel & Residences - Gold Coast - Official Hilton site

I think you'll find the Hilton apartments (residences) are open now and the hotel style opens later. I'm booked for June to stay there and can only get the Residences.

Still, not happy about Melb airport changing.

Sorry to bump this thread

Why is Hilton MEL actually changing? Did Hilton terminate the lease or the new owners terminate it? I would rather have a Hilton than a no name (well not worldwide) Park Royal that does nothing to give you status points with limited hotel coverage world wide. They (Pan Pacific) could atleast named it Pan Pacific than a pathetic Park Royal, it kinda devalues the property and quality of the property.

The good news is SHERATON is returning to Melbourne! :) The Westin is still good though.

Read the thread, the owners of the property sold it and it was purchased by a group who employ "Park Royal" to manage it.

Mulpha (which owned the property amongst others including Sanctuary Cove and the Sydney IC as well as Hayman), sold it to Pan Pacific Hotels for $109M, who have rebranded it as a Parkroyal, joining its other hotels in Sydney (Parkroyal Parramatta and Darling Harbour) and Perth (Pan Pacific Perth - formerly the Sheraton Perth). Pan Pac own and operate their hotels as one entity, the change takes place after the Hilton management contract expires:

Pity for you blokes that seem to be skewed toward the Hilton, the location was ideal and by all accounts, whilst expensive, did it's job.

Not skewed specifically towards Hilton, but at least decent minimum benefits are defined unlike the nebulous PC.

FWIW, last week we stayed at the MEL HI ... on points ...
