Hilton Q1 2013 promotion - Double base points or Double Miles

Points for me. I have 15 nights in the quarter (would have been 25 but for Sydney opting out) and want an urgent top up for some expensive reward bookings coming up. Most are stays well over $500.

I'm taking the miles and dumping into QF. I'm always interested to see other people's strategies. It gives the opportunity to re-evaluate. I'm a frequent short stayer - I think my longest stay at a Hilton last year was three days.

I seem to keep making bookings for points and then cancelling when the $ cost drops below the "points" cost.

As a result the main awards I have stayed on over the last years have been Q3FN's and I have a nice stash of points.

So for me it's "Miles" - QF (and Fixed Miles) if a stay cost (one or more nights) is under USD500, AA (and Variable Miles) if over $500. (AA for Hampton Inns. :p)

Thanks all...the link is now working again and I have registered.
I haven't done the calculations but went for HH points. I know people say that you can not have too many FF points but I am feeling I do at the moment
That said before the next similar promo I'll work out the best way to get a few more AA points (noting especially serfty's post above) now that I have joined that bandwagon
Thanks again and regards to all

Hint. Low $ stays may prove better as double fixed miles with a partner that can transfer back to HH points at 2x rate.

what an interesting puzzle. I THINK I found two airlines to match the description

tanks for the heads up. signed up for double points.

Just so I can be sure about this, you would need to have points already in the fixed miles partner, or the ability to get others there, because both that I found have minimum transfer amounts that would be unlikely to be met with one low $ Hilton stay?

Yes, very true (and I did say "may be"....personal circumstances may differ to mine). I also used the recent promo of each stay increasing by 1000 miles (VS promo) to bolster miles and intend to use them as miles but an interesting quirk nonetheless. Miles can also be banked for some future transaction (including miles purchase when deals are on).

thanks indeed
I appreciate everyone's sharing stuff here.
It is an interesting quirk, and one to bear in mind

I am one to take miles rather points as most of my stays are no more than 1 day at a time.

I'm actually doing this the other way. Two longer stays coming up so I've chosen points as I get 500 extra miles (on top of the additional 1000 from the 'double' offer) for each stay if I exchange.

Is anyone else having issues with Hilton -> Velocity? On the Hilton end the bonus points are showing, but on the Velocity end the bonus points are there. Anyone else had this?

I keep forgetting to ring Velocity during the correct hours (only a red member; fewer hours they're open).

Someone else mentioned that issue in one of the threads. My points have posted correctly to VS, so I'm assuming it's a VA issue.
