The interesting thing is that HSW is 100% owned by Hilton, so it's not a franchisee deciding to opt out.Opting out seems to be becoming the norm for HSW.

I'll take your word for it (although I thought HSW was not owned by Hilton) but does it really matter? An opt out is an opt out as far as I'm concerned! They have still done it twice in a row.
That just about sums up my thoughts. So of very little use to most of us :!:
Can someone PM me the Diamond desk details please? I'm still chasing points from a recent stay and also my HH membership card. Have never received one through my entire time as a Gold & Diamond. Even after requesting one via the website.

One year I decided that I would chase them up for a card, just for the sake of it really. I just kept requesting it via the web-site every few days until one turned up. Haven't bothered since. In fact, I have never been asked to show it at any hotels.
I've never been asked either, but think it would make it easier to get directed straight to the EL to check-in by flashing it rather than stating "DYKWIA"
I'm not really a fan of the EL check-in. Being asked to "take a seat" says to me "we're in no hurry so you may as well sit". I have no problems with the normal check-in counter EXCEPT when there are huge queues. I often wonder about the point of those dinky HH signs and rope. Often no one is serving at those "elite" sections and when they are, there is absolute no monitoring of status, it's just "next please"! Honestly, what's the point?
At both Hertz and Eurpocar, I've frequently heard them ask the queue if there are any status members but never once have I heard Hilton ask it (ymmv). Not a whinge, just an observation.

I thought that too, until the first time I checked into the Conrad HKG.
Now there's an example a few Hilton's could learn from
Yes, I agree with that. Also, Diamonds are all escorted to the EL there, aren't they? As soon as they look at your profile at the downstairs Reception, you are escorted upstairs to the EL.
I am just about to book a couple of stays at the Conrad HKG, partly on Princess Fiona's recommendations. I hope its as good as the Conrad SIN. Unfortunately, I've only got Gold status.I thought that too, until the first time I checked into the Conrad HKG.

I like the Doubletree Kuala Lumpur system. A couple of days before check in I received an email inviting me to go straight to the Executive Lounge on the 34th floor. Much better than queuing up and then being escorted to the EL.I'm not really a fan of the EL check-in. Being asked to "take a seat" says to me "we're in no hurry so you may as well sit".
