Hilton South Wharf - Lounge Access

Hi

Just wondering if anyone is aware of the Hilton South Wharf Lounge access policy for children, have just been to Intercontinental Adelaide, Sofitel Melbourne and all fine but heading to South Wharf so just wondering on the go there. Also how do you think the lounge compares to Sofitel Melbourne?

I haven't been to the Sofitel Melbourne lounge but have been to the Hilton South Wharf Exec Lounge on a few occasions and have been people with their kids in there around the 8-12 age numerous times. Not that its anything official to go by.

Thanks much appreciated, we have a 2yr old boy and he is great we ensure he does not run around or disturb anyone, give him the ipad and het is content to sit there for 2 or 3 hours without a sound. Sometimes one of us will take him for a walk for a few minutes. If he did get restless we would take him out of the lounge as i don't believe its correct to disturb others. I detest parents who let there kids run riot in hotel or airport lounges as we experienced the other day in the Melbourne Virgin lounge these parents are as bad if not worse than the kids when they make no attempt to control them. HSW also has a big deck off the lounge which is lovely on a nice day or balmy night........OK it's Melbourne and winter but still might be a nice option. We have never had an issue with them allowing our kids in either. They're not like the ICs which do tend to enforce a kid free curfew during happy hour(s).

Thanks the deck would be a good addition, the IC Adelaide is fine with kids in the club and is a great property overall and always upgraded in advance actually within 24 hrs of booking.

IMO Sofitel Melbourne Club Lounge is a notch above the Hilton South Wharf Executive Lounge.

In terms of ambience, the Executive Lounge is larger and more modern, and has the nice outdoor deck area (as pointed out, not so useful this time of year), but Sofitel Club is higher (much, much higher, with great Lounging views to the East over Melbourne) and the circular lounge section at this time of year is a plus. So I would rate them as different, but probably equal, depending on personal taste.

Sofitel excels in their F&B offer, much better food offerings than Hilton and spirits are self pour, so Sofitel wins easily in this aspect.

However, the Sofitel will probably be crowded, and Hilton SW generally isn't the scrum fight for seating that Sofitel is.

Absolutely no problem taking kids into the lounge at HSW. And as it is pretty large find a corner to tuck yourself into or take a table near the food (which is a bit noisier anyway) and no-one will worry. It is a pretty relaxed lounge and a nice (albeit very quiet) place to go throughout the day too. Have stayed there many times.
Agree with dk4 that Sofitel is a cut above, though only stayed there twice and some time ago now. Much more personal service - HSW great but 2 staff for a lounge full of 50+ people in the evening is inadequate.
