Fire broke out early this morning on top of one of the towers.
A Fire Department spokesperson said the fire ignited on the roof of the hotel’s western tower before ambers fell onto the pool deck below, sparking a secondary spot fire.

One resident, Joevy Lyn, filmed the moment the ball of fire dropped from the top level of the luxury hotel.

“The H on top of the Hilton building just started to catch on fire and then it all started to explode,” one witness, Tammie Klosterman told 7News, adding “it was quite intense”.

Six crews rushed to the scene to extinguish the two fires, with both blazes put out by 3am.
Residents across the hotels were ordered to evacuate the hotel before returning.

Upcoming booking in May for this property, booked a backup hotel in case this affects bookings. Anyone with a closer booking that can comment?

I believe most of those levels are not managed by the hotel - long term rentals/owner occupiers.

I briefly considered buying and living in a unit there until I slapped myself hard for proposing to live in a hotel, especially one with glacially slow lifts.

The fire was boulevard tower which is residential, the orchid tower got a nice view where the first 15 floors are hotel rooms etc, I suppose they have a spare sign from the end of the month in Brisbane ;)

HSP manage short term rentals in both towers, but yes no hotel rooms in that tower.

The apartments used to appear as a second property before covid - I think it was HSP Residences from memory.

It’s business as usual at Hilton Surfers tonight. Close to booked out by the look of it. Car parking diverted into the Residences parking, again. Didn’t get a chance to get a look at the old sign location.

Just had a look up at the sign’s (former) location from the street below. It’s now dark outside but there’s a bluish patch now covering the spot. The area on the street below is roped off but everything is operating as normal.
