Wow. I did BNE-LAX-BNE in 2009 (Sept) for marginally under $1000 in Y with QF.

EDIT......Oct changed to Sept. Sorry, all by memory, which has seen better days

Few earlier tickets come to mind:

SYD/LAX/SYD on NZ for $1300 in 1989
SYD/LAX/SYD on UA for $1350 in 1990
SYD/SIN/BOM/ROM/LHR/NYC/LAX/HNL/AKL/SYD. RTW @ $2500 in 1990

Someone (who shall remain nameless but must always be obeyed) has "tidied up" my old trip records, and that includes my tickets from 1980s! But I harbour hopes of them reappearing at some point - I have been assured they did not go in the recycle bin!!

The LAX fares took a tumble in 2009 when Virgin and Delta started flying the route as I recall. QF had fares as low as a tad over $900 rtn for SYD-LAX in September. I know we got four tickets for less than $4000.

I also remember returning to Australia in 1971 on Caledonian Airways LGW-AMS-KHI-SIN. 5 days in SIN then QF to SYD. All for £200

In Apr 2009 we booked a trip for Sep / Oct 2009 that went SYD to SFO and LAX back to SYD on Air NZ for 4 (2a & 2c - ages 8 & 11). We paid only $3591.68! Fares were 2968 and taxes were 623.68. I don't think those prices are ever likely to be repeated.

In Oct 2010 we booked same trip on Air NZ, taken in Apr 2011, for $4277.24 (by this time it was 3a & 1c). Still pretty reasonable.

Heavily overbooked so they seated us in the Polynesian Pub The most enjoyable flight - I've ever taken :shock:

Trawled through some old emails:

Nov/Dec 2006 with NZ ("Tasman Smart Saver")
MEL-CHC-DUD for $399 (Fare bucket G then T)
MEL-CHC $238 (Fare bucket K)
CHC-WEL-MEL $277 (Fare bucket K)
CHC-Queenstown $142 ("Domestic Smart Saver") Fare bucket L

Involuntary re-route on the first to MEL-AKL-DUD was pushed into "Tasman Flexi Saver" (Fare bucket T) and shows a price of $493 (although I didnt pay but presume internally that was the fare pricing).

In about 1996 or 1997 a BNE-SYD 7-day out fare on AN was about $450, and rtn about $700.

By 2001 BNE-SYD was only $55!

I paid $1018 Air India return to the UK in the early 80s...

And how about this..? I paid $568 yesterday for a return SYD/MEL in whY on VA for this weekend 15/16 November 2014!!!

MAN-JFK around 1995 for about GBP350 in Y (BA direct). in 2004 I did LHR-SIN-PER-SIN-LHR for about GBP 700 in a QF 747 the whole way, again in Y.
