hk lounge access on partner airlines

Im looking to fly qantas into hong kong on business class, then buy an economy ticket for my onwards flight from hk
just wondering if i can access lounges?
based on the wording below, I am guessing no?

"If you're travelling on Cathay Pacific operated flights in different cabin classes within the same journey, you can enjoy lounge access if at least one sector of your journey is booked in First or Business class, and your connection is within 24 hours."

Generally, I believe your lounge access entitlement is based on your onward booking, although Cathay explicitly states that if you're on a single booking they'll grant lounge access based on the highest class of service on the same journey. This probably requires a single ticket with the same PNR (e.g. flying business and connecting onto economy on a flight where business is unavailable) booked directly with Cathay.

However, it sounds like you might be booking separate tickets between your Qantas flight to Hong Kong and onwards Cathay flight? If that's the case:
- I don't think you'll have access to lounges in Hong Kong (unless you hold status with Cathay, Qantas or another oneworld airline in which case you have lounge access anyway).
- You probably also need to collect your bags and clear customs / re-check in in Hong Kong as Qantas won't check any baggage to your final destination (unless one flight is an award booking and the other flight is a revenue ticket in which case Qantas makes an exception).

Your inbound Qantas flight will be over five hours.

If your outbound is no more than five hours and on a oneworld marketed and operated flight, then you have business class lounge access by way of the oneworld connecting flights rule.
