Hi

I will be flying QF127 SYD to HKG and then transferring to the Skypier at HKG airport for a CKS ferry to ZGN China. The website says that I need to provide the QF luggage tags to the ferry ticket office at HKG and they will retrieve my luggage and transfer it to the ferry as I cannot go thru immigration / luggage collection etc if I want to use the ferry service. The website says that I confirm luggage status when I enter the Skypier boarding gate

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with

  1. the luggage being confirmed / status provided when I enter the Skypier boarding gates
  2. any problems encountered with luggage delays or not transferred

I am concerned that my luggage would not be transferred (especially if the flight is late ) and I will then have probs getting it from HKG when I arrive in ZGN in China

thanks

Done it many times. It's not a problem. They will retrieve your baggage for you from the carousel and confirm it's been done. I've only done this to get the ferry to Macau but it's the same process. Seamless and in 10+ trips has never resulted in a lost bag.

Thanks for the info Knightman7

do they confirm that the luggage has been retreived when I get to the boarding gate for the ferry?

You can ask the girls manning the desk at the skypier boarding area. I never bother myself but you can for peace of mind.

I've done it twice now to Macau and the last time, the status display was down, so wasn't able to confirm the luggage status.

Done it many, many times. Our company has an office in Zhongshan and we've had dozens of people do the ferry trip from HKIA. Never been a problem.
What we tell our staff is:
- Don't go through Customs. Go to Transfer area E2. Ticket counter for the ferry is at the very right hand end of all the counters.
- buy a First Class ferry ticket (it's only about an extra $A5). You can pay with Aust credit card - note that when you buy a ferry ticket in Zhongshan to come back to HK, you have to use cash or a Union Pay card.
- if your flight is very late, they won't let you buy a ferry ticket. It's only happened once to me in maybe 15 trips.
- You hand over your baggage receipt, They give you one of theirs.
- We have never had a bag go missing. They don't confirm they have it before you get on the ferry. Yes, its blind faith, but it works.
- Not much to do in the Transit area, so suggest you go to the Pacific Coffee shop in area E1. Relax. They don't let you go to the Skypier until about 30 minutes before ferry leaves.
- People mover entrance to Skypier is just next to where you buy your ferry ticket.
- When you arrive in Zhongshan, as you enter the main building there's a roller door on the left. Hang around there for 5-10 minutes with a bunch of other people. When the door goes up, grab your bag. They will check it against your receipt.
- Not sure where you are staying, but often the hotel will arrange a pickup (some are free, others charge). Easier than taxi. If using a taxi, make sure they use the meter and the meter is zeroed when you get in.
- Best hotel in town is the Hilton.

Zhongshan is a great city. Trust you enjoy your trip.
