I"m good for early Jan, and Australia day week end. Beyond that anything really, but I thing Easter/ ANZAC day is close together in 2014. Then I could work in with a conference in May in KL.

I did a few last week.... had a few hours at HKG....

  1. CX Wing... Wan ton mee (WTM), cha sui bau (ewww... nasty), Heineken (very cold). Smelly a/c made it most uncomfortable. BTW it is lookign tired and really is screaming out for a refurb!
  2. Long Bar - G&T or two on the way to the.... CX Pier
  3. Long trek to CX Pier - Yawn.
  4. Long trek back to
  5. QF Business Lounge - ewwwwww... smelly, horrible... get me out of here! yuk
  6. Priority Pass Lounge.... actually OK... bought a pint of ASAHI..
So....

All a bit etzy getxy... (so so). I am beginning to get over the lounge thing...

Whatever.

Ooh Roo

I was also in HKG last week & due to a delayed flight departure, I managed 4 lounges in 4 hours.
1. CX Wing for shower & freshen up.. The showers are nice & spacious with the oversized rain shower head which is great.
not much else of enchantment here though.
2. The Cabin. My preferred lounge. The segmented areas, especially the bars are great, space & pleasant offerings of varied & fresh food & mixed drinks.
The computer area & quite zone to the right as you enter is better than the hum drum of the food areas.
3. The Pier is also quite pleasant, though a hike from the lower numbered gates, but offers a nicer view.
4. The G16 Dragon Air lounge upstairs near gate 16-18 is very spacious, a tad dated & quite in the evenings with mediocre food & drink offerings, though the lovely ladies on reception kept me personally posted on my flight status which I appreciated.
Also this lounge has a nice overview of the gates below, in case one is time lax.

My most frequented lounge in HKG would be the SQ lounge conveniently located near gate 15. Though being an internal lounge the F&B offerings are reasonable as is the CNAC lounge upstairs with the upper level views.

The most positive aspect about all of the HKG lounges is that they are well staffed, both at reception & also for the catering & cleaning which IMO is superb.
The food is well stocked & reasonable variety, the drinks are always plentiful & well chilled.

IME there is nothing worse than entering a lounge & seeing used/dirty plates glasses & cups lying all over abandoned tables & then Bain Marie's that aren't replenished promptly & general F&B rotation.

On the whole I would give a rating of 8.5/10 across the board for quality & consistency for the HKG lounges I have frequented.

I will make a concerted effort to visit several more of the lounge offerings in HKG, but agreed depending on ones mood & travel frequency it can become very repetitive & boring, though surely a more enchanting respite than the general terminal area, whichever terminal on any continent.

Back on topic :D

Cheers,
jl.

April 4 for me. I'll be in HK the three nights prior, one night on QM2 and the other 2 nights taking full advantage of the Langham Place Club's free CHAMPAGNE between 6pm and 8pm (but only sparkling at other times. ;))
I hope to see you on the QM2. I board in Fremantle after catching the 158 bus to the Passenger Terminal. Will be in Hong Kong until April 6th.

If we do this may I make a couple or three outrageous suggestions?

1. We stay for a least 2 or 3 nights and savour the delights of Hong Kong.

2. We do it by the end of March 2014 while I'm still P1!

3. We book it when the next $800 sale is on.

Not sure about your desired dates, though it could be a fantastic opportunity for QF & its PR/Media team an opportune time for positive exposure in desired hosting pre flight/in flight/ post flight (even self funded) of some loyalist members - QF/AFF & otherwise, their lovely & famed ability of warmed & reputed hospitality. :D

How does dep 8 Nov ret 10 Nov (arr 11 Nov) suit people?

You should join our roll call on cruisecritic.com I am trying to set up a shopping tour in Shanghai and there is another AFF'er who is joining me and I hope she bobs up too! I board in Adelaide on the 10th!

Interested in doing a weekend and will keep watch for dates suggested but I'm out for the rest of this year.

Australia Day does make some sense, I think a few social calendars are getting close to capacity this year.

I will be in for this :)

Suggest targeting dates after "The Bridge" has opened (due September), don't think a firm timetable is in place for the QF refurb (and to be fair the QF lounges are best avoided in HK...).

Some thoughts for possible trips ex-HKG:

-MH A380 HKG to KUL
-CX 77W/330G HKG to TPE or MNL (or an MR run even: TPE-HKG-MNL)
-RJ HKG-BKK (not the best J though but BKK is always fun)

I have just realised that I will be in EU from late Jan untill early Mar, so that is out for me. And no, I am not transitting HKG.

Sigh :( March/April is really not good for me.

Anyone brave enough to say a definite yes to Australia Day weekend? HKG should be all lit up and looking glamorous in anticipation of lunar new year the following weekend :) (although it will be winter, brrr)

Are people thinking of only accessing QF/EK lounges at HKG? (Presuming EK flight numbers won't allow CX lounge access).
