Two of us have just booked flights to Europe for next July and will have a 7 hour transit stop in HKG. Looking for ideas on how best to use the time. We land at 17:20 and depart at 00:25. it's a day flight from Melbourne so we won't be needing to sleep.

We're flying in on Qantas in J and out on Finnair in J so will have lounge access, of which there are many!

I've stayed at the airport hotel once before and thought that was quite good, and they have day rooms available up to 21:00.

Or is there time to head into the city for a meal?

Any ideas most welcome, thanks.

Your available time depends entirely on an on time arrival which you will be aware of !!!....So for me the availability of great OW lounges means ample time for lounge visiting with the best being the CX lounge, but BA and QF are pretty good as well so your 7 hours in reality becomes 5.5 hours after allowing for rescreening and time to go to the gate....just enough time to sample all the OW lounges in style !!!

No BA lounge in HKG... Did you mean EK lounge (accessible only if flight is booked with an EK/QF code)?

That's easily enough time to head into the city for a meal. If you landed by 17:20, you could probably expect to reach Kowloon or Hong Kong station by about 18:30, depending on how quickly you walk (the other day I landed at 20:45, was at Hong Kong station at 21:45, after spending 10 minutes looking at duty free, and coming from a distant gate). Plan to catch the train back at about 22:00 and you'll have almost a good 45 minutes to spend in a lounge. Do you have Platinum/Emerald status?

The train is advertised as taking 24 minutes from Central<->HKIA, and usually runs every 10 minutes (it was running every 20 minutes for a while because of the protests)

There is also another thread on this very subject that may have some good suggestions.

Head straight out on arrival into town. Go up the peak to see HKG at night. Back to airport. You would have time for a quick meal, but you'd really want to know where to go and how to get there. Not much point picking a random restaurant and hoping for the best.

You'l probably also want a shower in the lounge before departure, so allow some time for that.
