HND-SYD-BNE flight change. 5 minute Syd transfer

Regardless of what happens to HND-SYD, the airline WILL transfer you to the next available flight to BNE. There are (as you know) lots of SYD-BNE flights. If the last flight has departed, they will put you up in a hotel till the next day
They will even hold that 22:00 departure flight if enough of you are transiting.

I had a 22:00 flight from SYD > MEL held until 23:05 (departure after curfew) to wait for a late connection. About 22:35 suddenly 20+ PAX boarded.

I'm just leaving it for now. I don't have to be back in BNE that day. QF can sort it out...strange how no option to move to the 2205 flight was offered, even though there at U class booking available.
If you want you can roll the dice here, but the real risk I see is having to deal with hotels and everything else should things go sideways that makes an already long trip even longer. The choice is yours but I would recommend calling QF to get them to put you on the 22:05 flight and I can assure you there will be zero push back from QF since it was a change they made, a change which caused your flight to go under the minimum connection time at Sydney. Having encountered similar situations in the past with QF classic awards, what is generally done is QF lets you choose any QF flight departing on that day or within the 7 days of departure free of charge, even if there is no U availability.

Just an update on the HND flight changes.

The flight arrived early and I arrived in the DOM terminal in about 60 minutes after landing and an hour before the rescheduled flight left at 2205.

On the way to the gate, there was another flight to BNE listed with people wating at the gate. It was QF552, the original flight. It didn't leave until 2240 so the later departure time meant I was home 40 minutes early.

Sometimes you have a lucky break.
