Hobart Hotels.

Hi guys, I am doing a status credit run to Hobart in May.
Hotels in Hobart seem to be split into two categories.
Newer or boutique hotels, that often cost close to $200 or more.
Older hotels in converted buildings such as mansions, or very dated buildings from the 1960's, that do not seem very appealing.

I am looking for a hotel in the $100 to $150 a night category, preferably with little street noise, air conditioning, and parking.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

I note that Wrest Point Casino has some quite good rates, but comments on Trip Advisor are very mixed. Adverse comments seems to revolve around dated rooms, and slow lifts. Any comments on this hotel would be appreciated also. Thanks.

I liked Mantra One Sandy Bay road when I stayed there about two years ago - it was a newly renovated converted office, with spacious servcied aprtment type rooms. Downside is it's on the outskirts of the city, so not very central.

Re: Wrest Point - I received an e-mail from Wotif today, with a one day deal of $129 per night incl. breakfast for 2, until 4 pm today.

We also stayed at Mantra One Sandy Bay Road a couple of years ago and would happily return. We didn't bother with a car, and spent a week falling in love with Hobart while sauntering around! Most parts of the CBD are only 3-5 blocks away from Mantra One, but it is very convenient for Battery Point, Salamanca Wharf and Sullivan's Cove.

The Hotel Collins, Grand Chancellor, Somerset on the Waterfront, or Grand Mercure Hadleys are all pretty good in/around the CBD area...

If you don't want to go into the city or stay on the Eastern Shore, the Shoreline Hotel is alright and not too overpriced, or you can stay on airport at the new Quality Hotel down there (Its good but a little overpriced at times)

I really like the Lenna, but haven't stayed there for quite a while so not sure if it is still upholding past high standards.

Work books me into the Woolstore which is a good location and not a bad hotel.

I also stayed here in November and was very impressed.
Upgraded room was only $99 per night and included 2 lounge chairs, LCD TV & kitchenette.
All very clean and modern but look past the old building.

Many thanks to all that responded to my request. You can certainly rely on the members here to give you prompt recommendations.

Will keep all these hotels in mind.
Actually the Wotif deal on Wrest Point was very tempting, as it even included breakfast, but as I haven't yet decided how many nights I will stay I let it pass for now.

I think my final three will be Wrest Point, Mantra One Sandy Bay, and St Ives.

We stayed at the Collins last year. Very central location, and very modern and new. But room was tiny, and service could have been better. Breakfast was very average (we are buffet breakfast persons, very important for us!).

So honestly I would try something else next time I get there, but it's still a good place if you prefer something new and modern.

I usually stay at the Lenna, dining, bar lounge, and reception are in an old mansion, rooms are in a purpose built block with a very recent 1st class renovation, fabulous views of harbour and park next door also close to to Salamanca and walking distance to the city, good parking. like most Hobart hotels prices vary, being close to $100 in winter but double at peak times. Excellent restaurant and also close to many other good restaurants, if you want to save $20 walk to Salamanca, 3-4 min where many good coffee shops serve breakfast at under half price. Downside, the bathrooms built to antiquated Tas Council regulations insisting on a window which cannot be closed can be cold in winter.
St Ives another good cheap hotel, often under $100 and mostly round $120. but you need a car to get into the city. parking in the city is free for the first 1.5 hrs and after this nominal fees in the council carparks.

I have also stayed at the Leena & your summary is spot on. I was travelling on someone else's coin for a change & agree the bar lounge & the restaurant were fantastic
