Hobart in talks with SQ and CX for direct flights

What is the chance of this actually happening? If CBR did not work for SQ I cannot see HBA will work?

This was brought up in another thread recently. It’s just the government sprouting.

The only thing that could possibly eventuate is the pre-existing seasonal freight operations into Asia turned into a passenger flight maybe once a week.

Whether or not SQ or CX launch flights to HBA depends on how deep the Tasmanian government's pockets are.

The following quotes from the article really summarises the key challenges:
["Independent aviation analyst Brendan Sobie of Sobie Aviation said Hobart and Tasmania are attractive destinations, but the overall size of the market is small and inbound traffic is highly seasonal.
This makes it challenging for an airline to sustain regular flights to and from Singapore without significant promotion and incentives, he added.
There is also likely to be limited premium traffic on the route, which could suggest a low-cost carrier – such as Scoot – taking it on instead of SIA, Mr Sobie said."]

HBA could really only work with a A321XLR (which might still be too big) which neither carrier has on order. A widebody would really be overkill for HBA.

A tag flight would work. You-hoooo .... QR .... over here!

Whether or not SQ or CX launch flights to HBA depends on how deep the Tasmanian Federal government's pockets are.

Because, ya know, we don't pay directly for much.

This talk about attracting internationals (beside Air NZ) is because the Feds put up $$$ first to lengthen, then to strengthen the runway and aprons. That's right - paid to upgrade a privately owned runway. Now someone has to find a use for it.

Can’t see an RPT service operating. But 20 years ago SQ did run some regular charter flights to HBA. Not something they seem to do to anywhere these days, except to ROK for the Singapore Defence Force.
