Holidays and Airport 'Chaos' since COVID

The T2 SYD terminal was again an absolute disaster again today, we had 2 team members miss their flights, apparently queues were out the door down the street back to T1!

Hope no AFF'ers got caught.

So the VA Premium entry is obviously still closed… I wonder how many peeps in that photo were looking longingly at those doors? 😳

If I was sent to the end of that Q, I‘d keep going a further 10m into T3 and ask QF for a flight!

I was thinking what I would have done as well.... I think honestly I would have turned around and gone elsewhere. What a disaster.

Our team members who missed flights said that the T2 airline staff (VA and JQ) were screeching out flight numbers, no one could hear them though.... sounded horrid.

You mean T1 = international airport?

T3, apols amended post

Any recent experiences departing SYD on QF with HLO? Kiosk or still need to front a human? I’m flying QF81 to SIN but as suggested above, F checkin probably won’t be open in the morning so I’ll be relegated to J checkin (along with everyone else who has whY Q jumper status).

I‘m currently undecided if I do HLO or check my bag.
Hey, just bumping my question. Any recent experience on the procedure at T1 departing HLO?

I’m heading out to SIN on QF81 next week. QF WP travelling in whY (slim chance of an upgrade). Last reports, F checkin closed until closer to QF1 departure. J checkin or kiosk? Cheers

I think it depends on destination requirements regard vax certificates and what not.

I think the simplest way to know is, at T-24 online check-in do you get a boarding pass you can print or save in your wallet, or does it say “see airport checkin”. You’ll have you answer.

That was my experience flying SQ in March (couldn’t get an OLCI BP) but I was checking luggage anyway.

When did you pass through? There are reports (in this thread from memory) of people with OLCI BPs being sent away from entering the immigration departures area?

Oh I missed that - were they on QF?

I travelled QF last week to USA, no boarding pass issued online so had to see the checkin desk. My vac cert was checked and then issued boarding passes.

Went though T2 around noon on Wednesday and there was no security queue at all. Must have taken a couple of minutes at most to clear security.

So, flying to SIN ex-SYD in whY HLO peak hour Monday morning (but no School hols). No BP issued with OLCI. QF app suggesting arrive at airport 4 hrs prior! (I was planning something like that anyway to get some F Lounge time).

F class checkin closed. Joined J queue but decided to try Kiosk checkin. Computer said “No”. Manual checkin was moving ok and I was at immigration in less than 15 mins from curb.

Got to eGates just as they closed. Security bottle neck was full. Waited about 10 mins before they reopened by which time a huge conga line had formed behind me.

Had I had a F/J BP, the security line would have been pretty quick from this point but had to join the masses. 1 hr later emerged in to DF. Towards the end of my wait, I overhead some guy joining the whY line but saying “I have an “Express Pass” (obviously from pre-Covid - nice try). By the time I was on final approach to security, even the F/J line was in conga mode. 2 then 3 security screening areas. There was only 4 for the rest…

Meanwhile over at LCC land….

Sounds like Sydney Airport staffing is at breaking point.

At T1, security is the weakest link and they obviously still don’t have the trained staff to operate enough screening points during the morning peak.

T2 just looks like a general bun fight. Whereas T3 appears to be operating relatively normally.

Hope it isn’t like that on Wednesday morning!
Might want to get in the queue now
