QF Gold + PC here.

This year I flew J Rewards to SYD-BKK-HEL-ROM and back ROM-AMM-BKK and got to experience Qantas, Finnair and Air Jordanian in J which was great. The new Finnair business was by far the best and also thoroughly loved the Emirates lounge in Rome and the Lounge in Jordan. Both places were filled with amazing local food and unlimited pour on all drinks.

While pondering the rest of 2023 I realized if i dont book a flight home to Sydney before the end of the year ill be stuck in Asia until Q2 2024 so in turn have managed to snag a CI flight in J home 2 days before Christmas.

Upon checking my next flight back to thailand i noticed a huge amount of J availability on QF starting January 25 all the way through to March 2024 from SYD-BKK so its a good time to make some bookings now for those who want a getaway.

(strangely enough no direct from SYD-MNL in J in that entie period.)

Maybe this is to do with a post i saw just then posted by Qantas on a FB group saying they just released lots of new CR flights as well as discounted points + pay. I'm in the process of investigating it atm.

I'm looking to return to Australia in March 2024 from Asia and just found availability for 2 people from TPE to SYD China Airlines business class for 150,000 points plus $7,408 fees. Is this some kind of a joke?

BKK - SYD via taiwan on China airlines was 101,000 points + $267 AUD.
BKK - SYD direct with QF is usually 68.400 points but there is ZERO availability direct from BKK, SG, MNL. I found some flights out of Jakarta but didnt want to go that route especially when i have to fly economy out of Bangkok and miss out on the QATAR business lounge which is an experience in itself.

There is more availability for J to BKK than ive ever seen but strangely none anywhere else and none to come home in May. Would love to see the process document on how they release these batches. I spend up to 6 hours, 2 times a week exploring, dates, combos etc

I'm seeing zero J availability on QF23 or QF295 for January through April. Are you meaning you see availability via KUL on MH/3K , via TPE on CI, via SIN on BA/3K etc?

I cant believe this system.

Last night i booked BKK - SYD via CI Dec 23 but i noticed this was not ticketed.
I also booked SYD - BKK back on QF23 and there was literally J availability everyday.

Today i rang up to get the ticketing fixed and they advised me of issues with the ticket. I have experienced these before so i decided to cancel the SYD-BKK until i can get the other ticketed (assuming the hundreds of J flights would be available)

As i cancelled, i reloaded this thread and noticed the entire thing is gone. Now back to square 1 with no flights. How does Qantas offer daily J rewards direct last night and today withdraw them all. 1 million % they werent all snagged up so either they are listing them at night, or someone in IT has made an error. What does everyone think?

so weird and very unprofessional
It's Qantas we're talking about. They can't (won't?) even process refunds in a timely manner.

I'm an elite frequent flyer with VA, UA, and BA, and they can all process refunds online immediately, but Qantas doesn't.

What does that say?

I cannot agree more. When i cancel a flight within 24 hours the card payment takes weeks to the point i forget about it and the points are rarely released. I usually have to call and get my points back manually under the guise of needing them for a RTW trip etc.

I mean no offence, but you assumed "hundreds" of J rewards would be available? There's only one daily QF flight SYD-BKK..... There wouldn't have been many (extra) opened up imo - specially at such a peak time.

unfortunately you did probably the thing you really shouldn't have done in cancelling that flight you had confirmed. You could have always cancelled it up til 24 hours before for what 5k points if you couldn't have sorted out the flight into SYD (or even just bought a revenue flight).

I guess you caught the release at the right time, but so did everyone else in that group and that's why they all got sucked up.

imo a learning experience (painful I know). Always good to hold onto that bird in the hand as they say....

Correct not hundreds, but there was availability of at least 1 J reward direct, 3 times per week for 3 months. More than enough to safely cancel like i have done plenty of times before. Its not a biggie, being stuck in thailand isnt the worst thing :)
