Hong Kong Airport - Which Lounge to use ?

Recently transited thru HK - once in the terminal we had 4 hours so off to the lounge. But the ongoing flight gate was not yet shown on the boards so we did not know which end of the ( bloody long ) terminal to go to.

We came in from LHR so we ended up near Gate 2 and used that very comfortable Cathay Pacific lounge. 3 hours later we needed to get to gate 69 so jump on the train and walk quite a way. Would have preferred to use the CP lounge near that end of the terminal but we did not know at the time.

Is there a secret to knowing ( even approx ) which gate we would be going to when arriving thru transit ? Before the gates are shown on the departure boards ? Seems HK only show the gate numbers about 90 min before takeoff.

Cathay Pacific Business Class was good ( 7 out of 10 - I am a tough marker ) but imho not quite at Qantas level. But the price was really good so all happy.

You're most welcome. I had made the list for my trip through HKG recently but only ended up going to F Wing, F Pier and AMEX Centurion due to having to hobble around!

Husband is going through Hong Kong with Cathay. Just checking that the gates are likely to be close to the lounges?
He is Platinium and flying business /first to/from USA

The Pier F is better than the Wing. It’s only a five minute trip using the travelators.

My vote is they are on par - just different. The food menu is the same afaics, but the foot massage at the Pier is a treat

Yes they are roughly the same including the food.

Went to Wing J, Pier J and The Bridge today.

Preferred the Pier. Seemed a lot quieter and less busy.

The Wing late afternoon can be a PITA with the sun in your face depending on where you sit. Food menu more or less the same, Pier may have a few more menu selections? Wing restaurant also has a buffet that seems a bit more varied than the Pier buffet.
I find the Pier quieter, due to not being out in the open

I usually walk to the Pier regardless, with the lounge food and champagne the exercise is needed, and if the plane is back at low-number gates, a bit of a stroll before sitting down for 9-12hrs is always good

QF - not until they offer real champagne. 1st world problems

If you are travelling QF (or EK) with QF status or are in Business and the EK lounge is open, the F&B at the EK lounge in my honest opinion is better than any of those mentioned.

I was in HKG this Monday on QF128 and tried to access the EK lounge. Was turned back.

The agent had a look at my boarding pass (from QF) and mentioned that I can't use EK lounge and have to visit the QF lounge.

Is this correct?

It was a QF issued ticket, marketed and operated by QF

I too was in HKG on Monday. Visited the QF lounge which was very nice. The to Cathay Bridge. The QF lounge was my preference. Next week I'l try the Cathay Deck.

There is quite a walk involved in visiting a few lounges. Comes down to time and marginal return.

I did the QF lounge and then visited the Cathay Bridge. The Bridge was small and the food spread was limited in terms of vegetarian food. So I went to The Pier near Gate 65 for a while and then back to QF lounge

Did you visit both the North and South wings of the Bridge lounge?
I don’t know about vegetarian options but thought they had a pretty good mix between the two. I especially enjoyed the Coffee Loft

I did only the one where you turn left after reception. I enjoyed the coffee loft too. I was in the lounge around 9:30, so I enjoyed the museli and yougurt. But otherwise, I thought the veg options were limited in comparison to The Pier, obviously

The North wing has a bakery that was doing what looked like some pretty good pizzas. They also had a huge range of fresh breads and rolls and were making sandwiches. Also not a bad buffet, looked like some Asian dishes and some good varieties of fruit.
I must say I was surprised by my visit to the Bridge and it was fairly quiet when we were there

I arrived to the lounge about 4pm and turned to the right and also enjoyed the bakery options. Had a champange overlooking the aircraft movements.

When my departure gate was announced it was Gate 17, so I went back and waited my time in the QP. When it was time to go to the gate, i used the back entrance of the QP which had convenient access to this gate.

When it came time this week to return to BNE, I simply settled into the QP. I was a CX 1pm flight to BNE and the lounge was very quiet. Just what i needed.

Wow North wing sounds more interesting. Alright, I will do the North wing on 14/Aug or 17/Aug when I'm in HKG enroute MAA
