Lets just say they didn't want to let my friend leave the country (she is a native!)...of course there is more to it than that, but not really sinister. Immigration interviewed both of us for around 45minutes with the gate in sight and our names being called several times...finally let us leave. I had to use all my skills of negotiation and factual reporting to convince them to let us leave....whether it had any affect on the outcome, who knows.
