Are there any good idea for a day/overnight tip ex Hong Kong (and using a OW carrier)? Ideally in the $xx_ not $xx_x category. As you may surmise, I am essentially seeking another opportunity to make the most of the CX Lounges. Seeing somewhere new would be a nice side benefit however.

Your primary short-haul destinations for a "day-trip" from Honk Kong on a OW carrier are Manila (via CX); Taipei (via CX); or Bangkok (via CX, UL or EK if QFF). You could also consider Kuala Lumpur (via CX or MH) or Singapore (via CX or JQ) but at ~4 hours it will be a long day indeed.

My bigger question would be...why bother? Yes, HK has some pretty excellent OW lounges, I don't think any of them are really worth engineering a whole day trip.

I would probably choose Taipei, because it's a short flight and Taipei is an amazing city. Manila and Bangkok can be fun, but harder work. I find both SIN and KL to be pretty boring in comparison.

A good starting point might well be the Dragonair and Cathay Pacific websites to see what offers they have on at the moment. There's a whole range of destinations within a few hours flight, although I expect many for timetabling reasons would require an overnight, and a significant number would also be impossible to do even overnight with less than daily frequency, and the cheaper fares also may have minimum stay requirements.

I agree with bmcc above: TPE is probably your best bet; being only a couiple of hours away and a safe and quite interesting place as well.

And a reasonable CX lounge, and very good DF alcohol prices

A fair price to pay: I've wanted to write one for awhile, but I don't think anyone would be interested in my usual 7:30am flights to Sydney!

Sadly we'll all have to wait until 2017 for the T(R)! :)
