Hong Kong lounge

I think it’s very gate dependent and time dependent.

For me QF suits more a quick duck in pre flight than being first port of call
Agree entirely with gate location and also time frame.
We landed 7am yesterday off CX J , connecting with KLM, only Lounge we had access to was Plaza Premium, had 5 hour transit.
1st stop was Plaza Premium near gates 35 - 40, paid for many but free for us.
Plain fare, cafeteria style, busy but ok. Liked that we could sit in an open area with overview of concourse and shops especially after 9 hours in the air..

Had access also to Plaza Premium First near our boarding gate 7. near the CX and QF Lounges
Took very 12 minutes of brisk walking using travelators.
Better food, bar, crowded, no views, comfortable armchairs, you can see clips on YouTube.
When we come back in 2 weeks on QF, we will have the time to Lounge crawl CX and QF as J and SG.
Keen to hear your thoughts after visit.

I usually land earlier in the morning, or later in the evening in HKG.

The queue in front of the standard Plaza Premium lounge near Gate 1 scared me in the morning. Easily 30+ people lining up waiting to enter in the morning every time I walked past, heading to the Wing.

The Plaza Premium near Gate 60 (I consider this the same section as the Pier, near the AMEX lounge) is ok. I always appreciate lounges with made-to-order food. AMEX doesn't offer that.

I am curious how you accessed Plaza Premium First? Paid? contracted airlines?

With the SQ lounge reopened in HKG, perhaps some of the *A crowd that was sent to Plaza Premium will now move to the SQ lounge? Either way, I am glad I have many options as a QFF.

We were J KLM and after finding the Lounge at gate 35-40, staff rang through for us as closer to departure gate, and sent over copies of our BPs.

I was quite expecting to be sent next door at PP First @andytheturtle but welcomed by name while others were directed next door- lucky??

Most likely contracted as Sky Team lounges still closed

Plaza Premium First actually looks quite nice! Access to PP Premium is not very well documented... Were you on a QF codeshare flight? or just KLM? Skyteam's lounge offering seems lacklustre compared to *A and OW.

Looking forward to your take on the OW lounges in HKG!

Booked QF CR in J, code share was only AY from memory.
Very crowded in PP 1st, as you say due to other airlines' lounges as many still closed.
Very happy with KLM even though 2-2-2, staff engaging and very helpful with imminent delay, we made our connection to LIS, but bag didn't 😉
We are SG, home is J on QF30.
 
Another topic in relation to this, i have booked my dad in J from Hong Kong to Rome on finnair. What would be the optimal business suite to enter for him. I am unfamiliar with HK :)

Previously the norm was for Finnair to direct J pax to the Qantas lounge, same for Japan Airlines. Not sure what they're doing these days though
 
I thought Plaza Premium First was awful... No natural light or views, mess everywhere and very limited seating as well as a limited food and bev selection. Access based on being on EK business but honestly shouldn't have left the Qantas lounge.
I think JAL are still directing lounge eligible pax to QF as I remember seeing JAL lounge signs (an a4 piece of unlaminated paper mind you) on the way to the lounge and being confused.
 
Brief overview of my poor effort at a Lounge Crawl today.

Arrived at Qantas Lounge @ 4pm and quite impressed, bright, airy and very few pax.
Sun coming through late afternoon so it did warm up and more pax for Sydney flight, and did put AFL on the TV 🤔

Great attentive service, good views, food was simple but delicious flavours - no yumcha trolley that we saw.

Tiptoed over, rather hobbed (due to shabby ankle) to the Cathay Lounge at Gate 6, The Deck?
Lasted 5 minutes and back to Q Lounge it was for the rest of the evening.

Plate of the day was on point, chose beef in black pepper and char sui. ✔️
Desserts - chocolate tart and caramel cheesecake ✔️

Unless you are close to the gates near the Cathay Lounges, I think Qantas have nailed it here in Hong Kong ✔️

That's reasonable from a Sapphire POV. There were the Pier and Wing CX Business lounges available if you had more time and were looking for a bit of exercise.
With their readily available showers, I could shower, power walk, and shower again!

That was the plan @serfty and very disappointed that I didn't get to the other Lounges.
I had a mis-step upon arrival at Lisbon airport 2/52 ago and have been hobbling on a shabby ankle since - barely weight bearing 🙄

Slightly OT, but have had to use the mobility assistance offered at Porto, Schipol, HKG and now Melbourne and can report hands down Schipol gets the gold medal - hope next time I can "crawl" not hobble!
 
I recently visited the QF lounge at HKG around 1700, just before catching a QF flight. Thought I'd share some thoughts and make comparisons between the QF and CX lounges (J).

**Staff:**
The staff at the QF lounge were exceptionally friendly and easy to strike up a conversation with. During my visit, I enjoyed a pleasant chat with the staff in the dining area. In terms of service, some have mentioned that QF's service is superior. I would tend to agree, especially if you value a more personal touch. While CX staff are efficient, they don't often engage in conversations with visitors in the lounge. However, I did encounter a minor language barrier with a few of the QF bar staff. Some of them seemed uncomfortable communicating in English and quickly redirected me to another staff member. I consider this a minor drawback.

**Food:**
Food preferences can be subjective, but I personally enjoyed the offerings at the QF lounge. Initially, I was uncertain about the ordering process and approached the bar area to place my order. Later, I learned that I should have seated myself in the dining area, and a server would take my order. This wasn't immediately clear to me upon entering, and improved signage would be helpful. Nonetheless, I found the ordering process to be a nice touch overall, as it is typically associated with the F lounges.

Among the menu options, I particularly enjoyed the BBQ pork, which was reminiscent of The Pier. However, I wasn't as impressed with their Guangdong chicken, which resembled a typical in-flight meal one might encounter in economy class. I'd say the QF buffet was on par with, or perhaps even better than, the CX J lounges.

The Yum Cha trolley was more of a talking point, in my opinion. The har gow was served in an adorable single-serve steam basket, although it didn't quite resemble the typical har gow most would expect. I wouldn't go out of my way to chase the trolley if I missed it.

**Shower:**
Shower facilities are a matter of personal preference, and both QF and CX lounges had attentive staff stationed near the shower entrances. Personally, I favoured the cozy and warm decor inside the CX lounges, which had a homely atmosphere. Nevertheless, the QF showers were more than adequate, and there were plenty of them available.

Regarding the distance between The Pier and the QF lounge, I managed to briskly walk it in approximately 10 minutes, in the usual airport traffic. If you prefer a more leisurely pace, I would recommend allowing about 20 minutes for the journey between The Pier and the QF lounge. The time and distance between The Wing/The Deck and the QF lounge would be easily under 5 minutes.

Overall, I had a great lounge experience with the QF team at HKG. I would happily place this lounge on par with the CX J lounges, and perhaps even above if you highly value friendliness.

Visited the Pier J for a short while...plenty of nice Asian food but a fish market cf to the F lounge in ambience. The Pier F must be ìn my top favourite lounges!

Glad to hear that @kpc. I'd largely agree, the food at The Pier F was excellent! Better than The Wing F.
But to be honest, I found the table service "too attentive". I had five staff staring at me from the side of the room, all waiting to see if my next small move implied I wanna order something else, or have the table cleared. It became a rather stressful meal. Perhaps I am just more used to the J-level services and attention 😆
I'd call CX lounges "bustling" at the busiest of time. The QFi J lounge in SYD is the real fish market 🥲.

Haha.....i know what you mean about "too attentive". Everytime I took a sip of my nice French red Bordeaux, they came to top up my wine glass! and when I went to the toilet.... well they completely refilled it....who am I to argue? As it was the mid autumn festival, there was a lady going round serving mooncakes....despite being very full, they were delicious...
 
I believe some of the lounges had been contracted like QF do and will go back in house to CX. I’ve certainly noticed it at the wing where the bar tenders were not the usual quality. Hopefully going back in house will change the Cx quality.
