Hong kong, what to do, where to stay

Yes sorry about that I just found the post you're referring to.

Can I ask, do you recall what type of club room you stayed in?

We had booked a standard size room on the club floors. At check in they asked us if we wanted to pay to upgrade us to a bigger room which we declined. They then upgraded us anyway.

We had a great view of the harbour both from the club and our room.

When you arrive don't go the normal check in. Just tell the bloke that takes your bags that you are in a club room and go straight to the club and check in there. Cecelia was the host I dealt with the most and she was terrific.

Just back from HKG stayed at Langham Place Mong Kok. Great hotel, true Asian 5 * standards. Generous hotel rooms, great amenities, adjacent to Mall and MTR. Edgy surrounds but we loved it.
One downside is that the Airport Express free buses from Kowloon don't go there. Easiest option is taxi from Kowloon station $40 HK.
Hotel staff were great with kids.
Would highly recommend it :)

Yes, we stayed there at the end of August - really enjoyed it. Particularly enjoyed the free orientation tour of the area the Concierge ran, and the excellent location on top of the MRT.

If anyone is about to land in HK. Just a hint to placate the handbag loving wives. Sogo has a decent sale on now and Mrs 11sjw was able to pick up a Coach handbag for approx AU$250.

Mrs 11sjw >>>>>> :D

Thanks for the tip. We'll be there tomorrow and I know my wife has handbag shopping planned.

Another hotel recommendation - Hotel ICON (www.hotel-icon.com) in Tsim Sha Tsui East. Downsides are that it's a good 5-10 minute walk from the MTR and the service was occasionally a little variable (it's a training hotel), but apart from that .. the views from the harbour side club rooms are fantastic, the club lounge was great for evening drinkies, pretty decent set of in-room inclusions and simply wonderful shower.. :)

I realise the OP didn't mention kids but for those with kids that end up reading this our (Mrs and I) suggestions re HKG Disneyland:

1. Book a Club Room. Better access to the Characters. Plus the drinks and appertifs (6-8 pm) dovetail nicely into the fireworks display and are quite filling in themselves,
2. Buy a Platinum annual pass for one little one. Kids passes are cheapest and still offer same great discounts re accom and hotel food (25 & 20 percent respectively). The $220 outlay is very quickly recouped.
3. Don't eat at the hotel every night. Tung Chung is only a HK$120 taxi ride away and there are plenty of choices there. The bonus is the Citygate outlets will still be open after dinner!

In October stayed 5 nights at East Hotel located in Tai Koo. Excellent location-attached to an MTR station and massive shopping centre. Used their transfer service from HKIA after arriving from an overnight flight. Felt very well looked after and they got us into our room ASAP even though we didn't take advantage of pay-for-the-night-before guarantee. Efficient staff, very techno modern rooms and the harbor view rooms were awesome. More than our usual budget but well worth it.
