Hopping off a classic rewards flight at a connection location.

Bags are offloaded all the time when passengers don't show.'
unconscionable
Airlines transfer unaccompanied luggage all the time. But I would think if a pax no showed they would never carry the luggage - especially into TLV.
But I think it would be unconscionable to hold up an aircraft full of passengers with a deliberate no show, then forcing someone to locate the bags. It's bad enough when a passenger is late but when it's deliberate...

I suppose this would be a game of who blinks first...?

I need to get from Singapore to Europe. I have booked Singapore to Paris to Tel Aviv in Business class, using Qantas Classic Rewards.
Can we disembark in Paris and request that our check in luggage is taken off the flight in Paris as well? or is this against their T&Cs??

I cannot find any classic rewards flights from Singapore that stop anywhere in europe as the final destination, so the tel aviv flight was my best bet.
From this I assume that you actually do not wish to go to Tel Aviv at all and just want to get off in Paris? Do you also need to return to Singapore after being in Paris?

Because I am pretty sure that the airline will take a dim view of you just disembarking in Paris and abandoning the Tel Aviv leg altogether. I can't find it now, but there is a thread on here about an airline (maybe LH??) that pursued a passenger in courts for doing something similar because it was cheaper for the passenger to book X-Y-Z than just X-Y. Pretty sure the passenger was made to pay the difference. Someone more knowledgeable on the forum that me may be able to point to that thread for you. So just be careful.

And if you need to return, please be aware that no-showing for a leg of a journey usually results in all remaining flights being cancelled.

I found that thread I mentioned. Here it is.

It was Lufthansa. Not sure what Air France's attitude would be.

AF provides a way out without all the shenanigans (assuming the AF screenshot is valid) for €275.

Might be worth taking one for the team to check....
An approved tool to short check an itinerary can be valuable.

This very issue of short checking luggage was raised during Podcast #22

there was a case involving KLM
Podcast Episode #22: “Hidden City” Court Case at 25.31

KLM set prices when ask for luggage to be offloaded. Court said not a legally binding claim when you’ve taken less of their services than what you paid for. Through to 27 mins

In all these solutions don't forget , using the term loosely, sovereign risk... you're dealing with the French (or worse, Parisians). My little experience at CDG is that they just don't give a stuff.

And $450 as a fee for returning a bag seems unconscionable.

Sure, but the pax accepts in when they book as its in the T&Cs.

From my experience (numerous work trip to Paris) they absolutely would hold your bags pending the release fee#. There's bound to be a nice Gaelic 🤷‍♂️ in there, as they drag on a Gauloise.

# Unless its fronted by the baggage handlers, in which case they would probably give the bags to you, to spite management.

@am621 , could you buy your luggage needs in Paris for E275/$450 or there-abouts? Then go Hand Luggage Only and you are cruising!

One of the things LCCs have to answer for is the way pax will accept anything and everything in terms and conditions, regardless of how unreasonable it may be or whether it was created specifically with the intention of tripping customers up. In unbundling (and extortionate prices for rebundling) they have created the illusion that people are getting a bargain, and the worse the customer service is, the more people persuade themselves they must be getting value for money. I'm sorry to see flag carriers jumping on this bandwagon.

If you intend doing this, I’d do HLO and use the E275 to buy stuff on arrival that you need.

How is the OP intending to get back to SIN/Aus - may be interesting if the return seat is also with FF / risk to any FF position. Probably worth clarifying.

Re: bag fee, one wonders if part of the E275 fee is (other than a sheer revenue grab), just a way to get people to buy the correct ticket in the first place (not applicable in this case as it’s a FF redemption seat).
