Typical Norway - always appeasing Islamism and sacrificing their own culture, security and prosperity at the altar of cultural Marxism.

Of course Bacon is such a big and important part of Norwegian culture ??? And of course other things they proposed removing from the menu (cheeses, certain cereals and palm oil) are ever so offensive to Islam ..... Particularly Palm oil. Look how little of it is grown and consumed in Malaysia and Indonesia (!)

I apologise for the sarcasm but really I did not find anything suggesting this was about pork. If it was they could simply do what many hotels in SE Asia do and supply beef or turkey bacon instead. It simply seems a misguided attempt (now a reversed attempt) at putting a healthy spin on their offering like many companies do (what with the whole heart thing and recent classification of processed meats as carcinogens). Nothing more than a cynical attempt to capitalise on health concerns that seems to have backfired - hence the back pedalling.

Yummy. We'll be sure to indulge in some bacon happiness when we're there in January

Nothing to do with Islam, pork or meat as a carcinogen.Everything to do with a wife of the boss who wants everyone to follow her beliefs-
The proposed menu was designed by Stordalen’s wife, environmental and animal rights advocate Dr. Gunhild Stordalen, along with her EAT Food Forum initiative.

Its pretty offensive when others decide what is healthy for me. I trust they have also removed soft drinks, alcohol, chocolate, biscuits, nuts and pretzels from the mini bar and bars; removed sugar laden cereals, white bread products, sugar in bowls, coffee, tea, and muesli, and so on from the breakfast bar. But would bet they haven't.

Yep. So did our Hotel in Barcelona

Ahh. The voice of sanity.
A ban on soft drinks and breakfast cereals would make do much more sense.

I note that the cliche ' sustainability' was trotted out :-) to defend the bacon ban. Since when have pigs not been sustainable? Been around for a few million years IIRC.

But not the way they're harvested today.

And according to the AC angel in DFW a pot belly pig has been taken on AA as a service animal.

But another Scandinavian chain is becoming eco friendly in a much more consumer friendly way-
Scandic - Ecologival food.

You mean this bit? :)

At Scandic, we boycott king prawns because their cultivation destroys ecosystems and economies. Instead, we have chosen to serve crayfish in our restaurants. They are tasty and have a much better aftertaste. Try them yourself if you like.

Other than an apparent bias to crayfish, I'd boycott that chain because the smug self righteousness would stifling.

When you have a cup of coffee with us it is always organic and socially certified. We serve Fairtrade™ and UTZ Good Origin certified coffee exclusively. In 2006 when we decided on Fairtrade, it was not so common

Aren't they special?

Our hotels in Scandinavia are marked with the Nordic Ecolabel, Svanen, and this means that at least 5% of our food and beverage is organic – we are often well above that. Our aim is of course to increase this proportion.

About 95% of their food is made from non organic stuff like plastic?

Strange additives have been known to exist in hotel scrambled eggs. Scandic’s scrambled eggs have eggs, butter, cream and a pinch of citric acid, so they don’t turn grey.

No-one likes grey scrambled eggs. Wonder of the citric acid s organic? they don't say so.

We do not use any palm oil in our cooking. Some ready-made products, such as ice cream and sweets, contain palm oil. We are talking to our suppliers in order to make sure that all palm oil comes from certified producers.

Like Robert Mugabe's Palm Certified Palm Oil. That makes it OK.

We comply with the World Wildlife Fund’s recommendations for fish and seafood. No species feared to be endangered or which has been caught in an unsustainable way will be served on your plate. For example we have not served a single king prawn since 2006.

King prawns are endangered or caught unsustainably ? I best double my usual Christmas order.

I'm not holding my breath in Dubai in a couple of weeks. I hear the Christmas decorations are stunning though.

I can remember at a previous organisation that the decision to switch from International Roast/Blend 43 to Nescafe Fairtrade went down like a lead balloon. The switch didn't last long!
