hotel in dubai, attire in dubai

what hotel to stay at in Dubai, am Hilton gold and a ihg member.
will be arriving in F on emirates and departing F on emirates on award tickets so should have the chauffer drop off and pick up?
will only be in Dubai for sleeping time flight gets in at 11pm departs 10am.
plus would like to see what the lounge has to offer ???


also I am in my mid 20's and paranoid as to what to wear due to so many contradicting news articles and pictures with regards to Dubai and surrounding regions.
and will be married but won't have my name changed on any of my documents (want to do all the name changing when I get back) how will this affect room arrangements and anything else?

I would not be too concerned, the fact you are married and dont have the same name is not an issue (take a copy of the cert in the unlikely occurrence it does surface).For such as short transit I would be tempted to stay at the Holiday Inn Express at the airport, in the morning its a quick walk to checkin where the F lounge awaits.

Plenty of hotels to choose around Dubai Airport. I normally stay at le Meridien near the airport.

Regarding what to wear..you can wear anything that is comfortable for your travel ..no need to take along anything to cover your head etc.Regarding passport names - no issues that i can forsee.

With so much highlighted in the media these days about practices in Islamic counties your concern is entirely understandable.

As has been suggested above, under normal circumstances you probably will not run into any problems.

However, hotels in Dubai have in their Terms & Conditions the following clause

* In accordance with the local law, the hotel reserves the right to request legal proof of marriage at any time during your stay.

I strongly agree that you should take a copy of your marriage certificate with you but I would also add that Dubai at times has a different view of what constitutes a certifying instrument than we have.

Don't know whether it's even worth going to a hotel, Candyb. We stayed in DXB late last year - arrived around midnight from AMM and the luggage took an eternity to come out - it was 3am before we left the terminal. Have since had friends who had long delays also but don't know if this is the norm. By the time you get to a hotel, check-in and get settled you might only get a few hours sleep before it's time to head back to the airport anyway so maybe it would be an option to do an "all-nighter" - you could then sleep on the plane.

Yes I agree, I definitely wouldn't go into the city, by the time you get a taxi in there it won't be worth it. Either try to sleep in the airport or book the closest possible hotel to the airport, even if it isn't the most fancy. I hope you get some sleep

Does the lounge have a sleeping room? I have made use of one in SCL after an overnight flight and a long transit.

Not sure whether EK would through check your luggage to the final destination so you wouldn't have to hang around & collect it. That way you could just take a carry on bag to the hotel with a change of clothes.

Have not seen such a room in any of the lounges, but seen many a person pull two chairs together to make a bed boat about 1.2mts long and curl up to get shut eye.

I am of the opinion Dubai connect or not, best option is to get your bags checked through, hand carry only in Dubai, and taxi to your allocated/pre-booked hotel avoiding the wait both for the transfer bus and then que at the hotel to check in.

As a tourist passing through, don't worry about how you are dressed and the marriage cert for quality hotels near the airport. Even in the major malls being dressed with skin showing is fine.
As for places to sleep, I think in the Concourse A lounges their are Cabannas. Definately in the business lounge there is a quiet area with comfy beds and blankets which I find perfect for a few hours nap, but going to a hotel is pretty easy too.

It is against the law. Risk of being caught out is another matter as is how they would treat a tourist. We do have different surnames which wouldn't help. Why would I put Mrs B in a potentially harmful situation?

If challenged, yes that is the case.

There have been documented reports that unmarried couples occupying a hotel room is prima facie evidence of adultery.

So if you wish to avoid the inconvenience of a stoning it is probably best to avoid putting yourself in that position.

Just book a room at the airport hotel (i.e. the transit hotel that is airside).

And yes, they will through-check your luggage - indeed they'll have to if you are staying in the transit hotel, as you don't go landside to have the opportunity to collect it.
