Hotel Stay - Alarm clock reset fee

I must have missed something ... how does paying cash work in your favour? I guess saving CC surcharges ... and?? Or is it just fun to poke the bear and prove a point with the hotels and their CC charges and the possibility of later incurring still further charges? Something that they can't do with a cash payment?

I hate CC surcharges so if they have one I will always pay cash.

I stayed at one place and they said the CC surcharge was something so I said said just hold on and will go to the ATM across the road and get the cash out.

When the manager saw me paying over $1000 in cash he said they would prefer CC as it was less of a security concern. I said well get rid of your CC surcharge and would happily pay it on CC.

Also it means that they can not get you for something that you didn't do.

I will reluctantly give it for hire cars as they have too high of a cash deposit.

I am a cash person if I have to be.

I did pay a 7K deposit for a car once due to the fact that they had a CC surcharge and the bank wanted a fee for a cheque.

Yes I have annoyed business with paying cash but don't have a surcharge and you won't have to worry about it.

When I built my house the builder had a CC surcharge and he would not let me take possession until even the bank cheque had cleared so I took the final payment to him in cash, It was the Friday before a long weekend and I wanted to start moving furniture in and start living there so I payed it in cash. Yes he was not a nice builder and not the best builder either we found out after the fact as well.

If you pay a cash deposit, they don't have a credit card 'impront' to charge fees such as an alarm resetting fee after you leave.

Ok. Sorry. Yes it was a windup. Seeing i couldn't sleep this morning i told my fb friends that I was at apple hq taking a tour.

Took me a while to come up with something that was aff suitable but i found something that was believable but yet very strange so would create doubt.

Apologies for those who took my post seriously. I am sure some hotel would charge that fee but im yet to encounter.

So.. it was only a windup clock!
Ok.. nice gag.. but truly I am certainly waiting for the day for the implementation of these sorts of scam charges to appear.. as an observation of late from all sectors of accommodation are slowly implementing ways & means to produce supplementary revenue.. So Mal.. please don't offer any suggestions of this nature to the hotel BODs for this. Just wont know where to charge my multiple amounts of technological devices without "disarming" the alarm clock from here on in, without possibly incurring these types of additional charges..

And here I was thinking that this thread was serious even though it was in the Playground!

Pretty sure I read a post on FT of a 40 GBP charge for emptying the mini-bar in a London Hilton hotel
Regarding the clock issue, on a recent stay at The Trafalgar my Hilton clock was at totally the wrong time. Could not figure out how to fix it and had to call for someone to come up but unlike the April Fool, definitely no surcharge ;)

Left the alarm clock unplugged ay the hotel i stayed at this weekend. Will see if the charge appears. Actually that was my inspiration for this post... A revenue stream that i haven't yet seen implemented.

I was going to embellish the story further by adding more details such as the housekeeping staff refuse to do it based on union advice and maintenance had to do it. Really didn't leave too many clues it was fake tho. Was thinking of calling it a windup clock. Or having the person in accounts called April etc.

There is room for improvement for next year... Be warned.

I am off to check the infraction listings to see if suggesting more revenue items to a travel provider constitutes a 7 day ban from AFF

Mal are you currently in need of new employment? If so, I think your ideas would be a good fit for an emerging and exciting division within our global headquarters. Please email me at [email protected].:p

I will say in my defence that it wasn't actually 01 April in the US when I posted. :D

It was a good wind up and I'm not ticked off and I'll watch the time difference next time.

I never believed for a second (well, maybe a bit).

Very good point about the power board though...

I was away yesterday but I still think this was very funny at the time.

After another year of inventive hotel and hire car fees and charges I wonder if the original joke was about the alarm clock fee or actually getting the fee waived.
