HOTP (MEL) in closure proposal [Not any more - to remain a Hilton]

By the end of March next year there will be 12 SPG properties in Australia and 12 Hiltons. On the East coast it will be 11 SPG to 6 Hiltons and that is counting the Surfers property as 2 hotels.
Central and western Australia though Hilton wins 6 to 1.

Which is why I'm left with a quandry. HH, IHG or SPG. At the moment I'm likely to choose all three but settle for HH diamond and the other two as gold rather than trying to retain two top tiers only. It seems to me that only Hilton offer considerably better top tier benefits over gold.

I just checked in at HOTP and mentioned how sad it was that the property could be closing, staff said that article has created great concern, staff were called together and told that the property may be sold but that Hilton was staying put. He commented they have bern sold before and are still here so its business as usual. Would hate to see it close, I really prefer it over HSW, they give me a suite upgrade every time sothout fail and the staff are amazing, I had to cancel last weeks HSW stay because of the Newcastle Airport bushfire, I did notice my room upgrade there was to a city view..... Was glad I could get in here instead.

Interesting how this seems to conflict with the original article. Either they must have negotiated with Brookfield that the new tenants can decide what to do with them, or Hilton have a right to stay at least to the end of their lease and then reapply to the new tenants. Or some combination of those.....

Of course, the staff may be told enough so that not everyone jumps ship unnecessarily / before the last day. It would be rather irresponsible for the management to lull the staff into a false sense of security of their job if that is what it was, but.....

An AFFer who knows the HSW staff well was talking to one of the managerial staff there on Thursday and was also told that HoTP had no intention of closing, and was intending to keep operating as normal post-sale. No idea of how much say they have in it - maybe they have a long term lease - anyway, sounds like it isn't closing down anytime soon.

Just back from two nights at HOTP
A lady in the lounge told me that the staff ifs been told that the owners had taken the building off the market and Hilton were in negotiations for a new lease.
