Second selections meeting was today, after failing to finish last week. Heh. Still went over time today. Dang kitchens are expensive!
But everything has been selected, and we've got the contract and electricals to go through next week.

We did end up changing the tile for one that was part of the standard inclusions which saved a fair bit, we then of course made it up and then some when it came to the kitchen. I have some pics of the samples which I'll post when I find my phone. But we're going mostly for a black and white interior with shades of grey (just not 50 of them!).

Afterwards we popped into the show room of a flooring company who gave us some quotes over the weekend. They'd quoted on the exact same floor we liked from the builder's selections (was much cheaper compared to the builder's quote as suspected). I'd also asked for a quote on a cheaper option with a similar look just to compare, they did so and suggested we come in to look at the range to see the colours. We ended up liking it more than the laminate. Hasn't vinyl come a long way? Ha. We had a good chat about options and I think we'll be looking to go with vinyl when the time comes.

If you end up going the way of engineered flooring, I been given a previous tip about selecting one with the largest thickness of top timber you can get. Something to do with warping / cupping if IIRC.

FWIW - 6mm French Oak on engineered board is $120/m2 supply only .... add another $60-$80/m2 for installation.

We had our electrical appointment last week, which went well. Contract is on Friday. Eep!

Contract is signed! Now to jump through some hoops and see if the bank still wants to lend us money. Ha - who knows these days...

Congratulations on the signing :)
Have to say I was grateful husband and I bought a townhouse already finished . I struggled with picking a new mirror for my bathroom let alone all the bits a new house has to have
Looking forward to more pictures

Everything is still going okay. I haven't heard otherwise from the builder or the bank, so I'm hoping no news is good news. But there is an underlying anxiety that things might just not get started because of covid-19, which I can understand. Just gotta wait and see I guess.

The can only have two tradies at a time on site as I understand it.. so nothing much is happening quickly

Nice to see some progress. It's a totally painful process - after 4 weeks, we've finally made the decision on how our house is going to be built ie, will the walls be concrete, block, brick, lightweight, etc, etc

Good luck with things. Our new neighbours have just started-initial brickwork done this week & set-out. Three storeys so late Oct is the target

Oh yes, haven't checked in for a bit. Still ticking along. We had council approval, then realised the water tank was slightly too small for the size of the block, so we had to fix that. But I'm sure it'll come through again easy enough. I think we're thiiiiiis close to starting construction.
