Hi, I am traveling in J on QF10 SIN-MEL this Sat night and I have a colleague also traveling on J class with me. I have been allocated seat 13K and she has 26F. I rang platinum service 131211 and they said they do not have access to put us together. She confirmed that there were 1 spare seat in upper deck and 3 in lower deck but she could only put in a request. I find it hard to understand why they cannot do anything as to me it seems quite reasonable and simple. Is there anything I can do like ring another number etc. I know when we arrive they will say sorry as the flight is coming from LHR so I want to avoid that. Is it wrong for me to ask for such a request? I am a PLatinum member. Any ideas appreciated please!

Cheers, Tony

AFAIK they are not able to allocate seats 1 week before the flight, or if a certain number of seats have been allocated.

What you could try is to call up again and get your bookings linked. This will tell QF that you are travelling together. Make sure you both call and do it and I would personally double check after a couple of hours to see if it has indeed been done.

thats just me....I'm cough about these things

Other than that, try to arrive early and see if they can seat you together.

I think it is too close to the day of the flight and control of seat allocations is taken away from customer service.

You mention that there are 4 vacant seats in business class. Are any of the vacant seats next to each other? If there isn't a pair of vacant seats together do you expect them to move someone else so that you 2 can sit next to each other? I guess it is not that simple....

Good replies. The 4 spare seats are 3 window and 1 aisle seat. I do not expect them to just move another traveler who has requested a window/aisle seat, just asking. I prefer window upper deck but to sit together would sit anywhere in J as the seats are all good. I have the bookings linked and I double checked that was the case so I will see how check in goes. The issue they said was they cannot move a silver member even though I am platinum making the request. Maybe someone will be nice on the plane, otherwise no hassles.

Unless anyone else have some ideas then thanks for the replies.
Please note I am not trying to demand change, just enquiring. I love this forum site.

If linking your bookings and arriving early doesnt cut it and you cannot sit together, the last resort would be to check in and see if you or your colleague has the better seat.

Then use the better seat to swap with someone person.

Yes good idea. At the moment I have allocated 13K which I love as in upper deck and she has 26F which is the aisle in the three downstairs. Hopefully lady luck will shine down as I would prefer to not have to resort to asking someone if they minded on changing seats, such an impost and not really nice thing to do.

let the jigsaw fall where it may.
