I'll tell you why QF aren't making any money. Staff costs!
In my travels I have bumped in to QF pilots at Langham Melbourne and the Hilton, each at $200 plus per night.
Contrast with Malaysian - who stay on St Kilda Road at $110-130 per night and China Southern who stay at the Ibis for goodness sake. I only know the latter because my friend is a captain with China Southern!!
No wonder Joyce is tearing his hair out

Maybe; but you don't know what actual rate Qantas are paying the Langham or Hilton.

What, and China Southern haven't negotiated a rate with Ibis? I'm talking relative values and the Ibis is a far cry from the Langham however you look at it.

If Joyce stayed in an Ibis when he travelled, maybe the crew would be happy to stay in one too.

They are traveling for work and should be entitled to stay in reasonable accommodation - I presume that you have bumped into them there because you have also been staying there, and not at the IBIS!
Don't mean this to sound short but I wouldn't stay at the IBIS so I don't expect others to either.
