First Gold was a challenge .... 90d to stay a certain number of nights I think. Next couple of years were nights I think, or spend, can't remember, but then they raised the bar on both. I travel for leisure mostly nowadays as I changed employ a few years ago and simply don't have the time any more to qualify on nights as there are often no properties where I stay. Took the VA comp to Gold last year and with a bit of fudging am hoping for Diamond next year, again, VA comp.

A few more hiltons popping up in SE Asia and am particularly interested in a new property opening soon in HKG - if its any good I might qual gold again there on spend, otherwise it will be CC comp, probably the Mac card I imagine if Mac will have me - and they've never liked me thus far :(

Initially through spend - so that is how I voted. More recently it is has been through stays, and right now it is courtesy of a status match.
