Received: Relaxation suite

Sitting in HOTP lounge with a coffee and biccie. Been upgraded last couple of stays to a suite, and was at Surfers Paradise over Easter and had two rooms booked, we got a relaxation suite and the other room was dead centre relaxation room with an awesome view, had booked two guest rooms, had a bucket of water, sparkling and still, boys were hoping for the bucket of beer, bad luck the girls were happy. Hilton treat me pretty well I think, MCG has the sun setting on it and the coffee is good, all happy here.

Pretty sure there hasn't been a visit to HOTP for the last few months where I haven't received a suite. I have my colleague joining me here for the first time tomorrow (avid Grand Hyatt fan) and I was able to request he receive a xx13 suite to enjoy the better view... Although some would dispute the pool has the better outlook. Depends on the time of year?!? :)

Hilton Adelaide has always given me a Deluxe room, but only once a suite. I'm there once a month.

Having my first ever stay at Parmelia Perth in a couple of weeks. They had a great rate during the Anzac Day work week, so will be interested to see what they have on offer. Will miss the lack of a lounge though.

Seems like there are a few of us at HOTP tonight. Can't spot anybody in the lounge - hot food uninspiring tonight - looks like its room service this evening.

Back by 15 past 6 - ran into Jessica Tam, but we were on the fly - dinner for SWMBO's birthday beckoned.
AHA I thought I heard someone say my name, worked it out, you were sitting two tables down, have another two nights if anyone wants to say hi and join me for a drink.

Great hotel for the price.
With the number of AFFers participating in the "Farewell to QF81/82" event they did a good job upgrading even the Golds to exec rooms!

Used to stay at Brisbane Hilton 2-3 times a month for about 12 months some 3-4y ago and haven't been back. Stayed there last Wednesday night and a lovely bottle of red and a welcome back note was waiting in my upgraded room! Lovely touch

Frankly I wasn't impressed. The woman on the front desk said I had received a complimentary upgrade but I couldn't see it.

The hotel is tired and having a lift out of order really slowed things down.

Went for breakfast in the lobby bar and whilst promptly seated never felt welcome as a single diner. My first hot chocolate was served with powder lumps. I drank it and later on was looking for a second cup. One of the staff offered to get it and never returned.

Of course there is no hot chocolate amongst the beverages in the room (although there are lots of teas and coffees) and I forgot to bring mine with me this time. :(

Same thing happened when I asked for yoghurt at the fruit bar. I was told it would be brought to my table but it never appeared.

I saw other tables have used crockery removed very promptly but for some reason my table was ignored.

Check out took too long with no priority line. I saw several people with the express check out envelopes that had to be handed to the front desk staff. where was the box?

When I asked why I hadn't been given that option I was told it was because I didn't have any balance to pay. Surely that is the exact right type of customer to be given this option? It was the longest check time in any Hilton brand hotel I've ever stayed in.

Finally, the $100 hold on the credit card seems a bit excessive, again I think it is the largest amount ever held, usually it is $50.

ADL Hilton is not a place I would choose to stay at if there was an alternative.

Brisbane does $100 holds as well, I do wonder when they say its for incidentals how much people spend on such!

Seems Hilton Adelaide is going down a bit, or something has caused them to drop the ball.

The property is rather aged, but it still has an old world charm to it, unless they've failed to keep it in good repair. I know that the Executive Floor rooms should be with nice timber furnishings and what not, compared to the non-Executive Floors (or at least some of them, according to my previous experience) which can look quite old with the old tile floors and very plain walls.

Never sure how much Hilton put on the card temporarily for the "incidentals" - truth be told I've never paid attention (though I guess in my younger years when I had a debit card rather than credit card, I'd definitely be paying attention!). $100 doesn't seem too much really, though I think that's probably the highest that should be held against the card in any case (even for, say, a week long reservation).

I've heard of a story (not a Hilton, another chain, but I believe also an Australian property) where the amount held for incidentals was something like several hundreds of dollars, possibly hitting about a grand. Needless to say, said person who was affected has crossed that property off their list.

Meriton have authorised $1,000 on my card before when getting a serviced apartment. That's excessive, but $100 doesn't bother me.

Hilton Adelaide actually had two lifts out of action, and only two operating. That did have a very noticeable impact.

Note that you can also check out in the lounge. I do this when there's a queue downstairs (although there wasn't when I checked out around 10am). I did get an express envelope, but I never use them.

Booked on less that 24 hrs notice.
