The first thing to note was the fantastic welcome we received at check in, especially as we arrived at 1145 after an early flight from YYZ. No problems checking in early and lots of information about the town given during the process. Sometimes US properties have a 1500 check in time but not a worry for this property. The room was comfortable with an excellent view over this beautiful city. The Executive Lounge had a better view and was the first I have found that closed the Lounge at lunchtime (when it is usually empty anyway) and used the space for an tasty, quick and inexpensive buffet lunch for the genral public. We used it on the first day and returned for drinks (alcohol charged) and a limited snack choice in the evening. The breakfast in the Lounge was limited but better than the restaurant in the lobby given this property is connected to the convention centre and was full on the second morning of our stay. Overall a recommended experience - and the town was a very pleasant surprise as well. Certainly we need to come here again.

Nooooooooo! I am booked to stay there in three weeks....gutted that you say it is this bad. Has anyone else had bad experiences at this hotel?

Hilton SFO Union Square is just very "blah". I don't love it. I did enjoy the SFO Financial District (actually Chinatown) but it's an older hotel and out of the way. Still only a continental breakfast but there is a lounge at least, and they upgraded me to a top floor Executive Room. It is a little bit further away from the F Line tram and underground Muni metro lines though.

Not a bad time. I don't think I've even gotten a suite upgrade at Brisbane, but I like the lounge here and the staff are particularly lovely. I like this place.

Good stay, they offered to charge me $23 for breakfast downstairs but I declined and after a quick telephone call to the front desk I was seated and received breakfast for free...

No water or welcome card on first night. Water provided on subsequent nights (2 and 1 bottles respectively). Also had the 'complimentary wine and desert with main meal' card left on the first two nights. One of the more inconsistent stays, but nothing to actually complain about.

When we arrived the porter opened the car door then wandered over and chatted to another porter. My husband got the two suitcases out of the boot with no assistance offered. As we walked towards the hotel door the original guy rushed over and asked if we would like our bags taken to our room - I just didn't get it! The concierge staff were great the next day though.
Breakfast in Glass was excellent as usual.

I don't mind the valet parking fee, but I do expect the valet service!

No suite? That's the part I don't get. I turn up all by myself and get a suite the size of the MCG. You turn up with Mr Fifa and get a smaller room. That's not a complaint as I did love the King Suite, but I just thought it was a bit wasted on one guy. I bet when Lisa, I and the kids turn up, we'll get the two smallest rooms in the hotel .

Welcome to AFF doubleplatinum :) How did you find the Doubletree Amsterdam? I've got a booking there early next year (early planner!). I've booked the King City Suite.

Our daughter picked us up from the airport and dropped us off at the hotel so no valet parking required :). (I just had to make her a big container of chocolate slice!)

I have stayed at Sydney Hilton 6 times and have only received suites twice (relaxation suite once and the relaxation room we received was a sweetener due to a previous complaint). Other 5 stays have been stock standard rooms :(.
Good luck when you stay with the family!

I think at Sydney all their rooms are whatever they want them to be. Categories are just a way of managing price.

I agree!
For quite a while it was difficult to find availability using the $99 Hilton Macquarie Exclusive Reward card but the basic king & twin guest rooms seem to pop up more often lately.

So all three of us were there on Wednesday - probably saw each other in the lounge...

That we were it seems. I was in the lounge from around 1815 until 1900 before we went to dinner.

A lot of Emirates crew and Qantas pilots here on this stay. It seems every time I went in the lift there was a Qantas pilot and every time I passed through the lobby there was a full compliment of Emirates crew!

In my opinion, the Sydney Hilton is a perfect example of a property that creates room categories with a miniscule difference such that, if it so chooses, a status guest can be told they've been 'upgraded', only to be left scratching their head as to how.

What if my preference is for a room on a low floor? Next thing a 'one category upgrade' room will include those located closer or farther from the elevator.

Best stay at HoTP for a long time, though having said that, was good but uninspiring.

The good: Took notice of the always listed request for a room away from the elevator, was happy with that. Got an upgrade to Exec even though I booked base room on P+P. Desk clerk didn't inform me it was an upgrade ... perhaps she didn't know? I knew though and thanked her for it. Checkin was quick and efficient however. Water provided, internet free (per status)

The not so good: No GM card. A couple of mints + lights off in room is not a turndown. No sign of a concierge. I checked in late, for sure, after 12am, but I thought there should still be a doorman or concierge. I missed breaky in the lounge, but did take a peek, bland, as usual here. Went downstairs and got seated and fed fine, but I'm always underwhelmed by the service in the in-house restaurant at HOTP.

I've had worse at this hotel, and have had _much_ worse a few months ago at HSW ... next stay I'll probably go back to HSW as I read here that they have picked up their game again.

Thanks for the welcome! The doubletree is not bad at all, skylounge is great with a view over the city, just no executive lounge. They fill a minibar fridge for you each day insubstiution but very basic beers, waters and snacks. Ensure you get the suite facing the city side, I was in the one facing the train tracks and a little noise now and again but nothing major. Enjoy! Samhoud Places is downstairs about 50m from the front door, 2 michelin stars and well deserved! Check out Anna for dinner also in De Wallen if you havent been also - excellent!
