How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

I think I recall markis10 saying that the NT and CNS Hiltons all have the same. I'm not a huge fan of the CNS one, but it's acceptable, but we did really enjoy their Japanese style lunch box....well worth the money!

The Cairns Hilton's Hanuman shut down a while ago and it has become an Italian restaurant, Donnini, since I think early February.

Oh well, no real loss. I found Hanumans in CNS to run hot and cold for dinner. Breakfast was always good though!

Breakfast team is still the same. The meal options in the restaurant are quite different now and a little less appealing, though room service still quite good and at a reasonable cost - presumably much comes from Mondo's.

Status: Gold
Property: Hilton Tokyo Shijuku
Rate: Yen 24,000
Dates 27-31 May
Booked: King Junior Suite
Received: King Junior Suite Executive*

Slight disappointment with Hilton Tokyo. At check in, I was told that I was upgraded to a
King Junior Suite Executive. Thought that was a very nice touch from the establishment until I decided to go and check out the lounge. Upon entry, I was categorically told that I was offered an "upgrade" to an executive floor room but not entitled to the benefits! I was told by the Front Desk Supervisor & Assistant Front Office Manager that usually this is not the case but provided no explanation. To add further insult to injury, I was told if I really wanted access to the Executive Lounge, I would need to move from my King room to a Twin room! No big deal about accessing the lounge as being Gold makes it a privilege rather than a right but disappointed of not being told upfront at check in.

If you are in an executive room you should get the access that goes with it.

This contravenes the listed benefits of the HHonors program: (Loyalty Rewards from Hilton HHonors)
[SUP]7[/SUP]Executive Floor Lounge Access Policy: The following policy applies at all Conrad® Hotels & Resorts, Hilton Hotels & Resorts, and DoubleTree by Hilton™ hotels with Executive Floor Lounges. Executive Floor Lounges are available only at select properties.

  • If you are an HHonors guest with Gold status, you and up to one additional registered guest in the same room will be granted complimentary access to the Executive Floor Lounge only if you receive a room upgrade to the Executive Floor or an upgrade to a room type that confers Executive Floor Lounge access benefits.

I would be contacting HHonors customer care. (Hilton HHonors Hotel Loyalty Program Support | Hilton HHonors)

Complete opposite of what happened to me there! Also as a gold, had a king room non-exec. Asked about getting EL granted and was told that since I wasn't on an exec floor, it is simply not possible. I was then given the option of a queen room on the exec level which would give me EL lounge access (which I gladly accepted). Suggest speaking to the duty manager as I found them to be very helpful.

Thanks serfty. Have sent an email to HHonors CC. Received an apology email from the Director of Operations @ Hilton Tokyo.

Any offer of a gift for your troubles? I'm not sure one is warranted as they were never obliged to offer an exec room upgrade in any case, but since they did, they were obliged to allow you exec lounge access which would be worth what, AU$40 per person possibly?

a 'free' upgrade at next Hilton stay would be a nice gesture

FWIW - The Hilton Shinjuku EL is a very nice lounge - superb offerings, gorgeous views & gracious service to match - definitely one of my favourites. :D

Seconded. They make a mean Martini too. And on a clear day you can see Mt Fuji!

Woot! They've finally put in WiFi there :)

Yes, the girls who are on at this time of year are often very friendly and provide a decent breakfast service. 2 waters should be standard at the DT, replenished each day.
