Gold is 20 stays, 40 nights or 75K base points - see table here.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to dive from Diamond to Silver from 1 March 2015 (with only 6 stays, 9 nights and 13,175 base points YTD). Oh well, 2 years of Diamond was fun...
I seem to remember a certain QF WP snagging about 14000 base points in one stay IIRC! We can reminisce over the huge point accrual back in the day of seemingly endless double and triple bonus offers!

Especially when it is a longer stay with a multiplier on the base points. Very rare (usually there can be a multiplier promotion but the base points stay the same, and the remaining points are simply redeemable points, as you do).

Last time I checked, which admittedly was quite some time ago, there wasn't comp gold attached to this card, just the 20% discount of properties in AP. I'll go and have another look.

The new Mac VISA platinum card comes with gold status as a standard benefit. Diamond status with an annual spend of $40k or over. For an annual fee of $295 (which gives one free night after $2k initial spend) it probably makes sense for those chasing gold. Also gives 4 points per $ on H folio accounts.

A few nights in the Maldives should be enough to secure Diamond for another year on base points alone ;)

I can't say I've ever had a base point multiplier, but I have had some very useful 2 stay credit promos on multi-night single stays!

Whilst I'm sure you are not completely serious, be aware that there is a 100k base points limit on a stay, so you cannot make Diamond in only one stay.

I was half-joking about it. Let's just say I never re-qualified on base points alone before and this year I did it already in April.

Currently enjoying the gold benefits of this card and really keen to sample diamond soon

That is an awesome rate. I never really see that one below 100 GBP/night, even when on sale.

Yes, I was thrilled.
I booked the Summer Sale rate after finding the same rate cheaper on the QF AU site. Then I sent off the on-line BRG request and it was accepted the next day :D.
Unfortunately I haven't been able to find any of my other bookings cheaper on QF or any other 3rd party sites.

I have requaled previously on base points (back when it was a paltry 100k), but my next year planning has HH Dia made very early on, on base points (thanks largely due to a Jan Holiday including the Maldives). I just hope I can do a Cynicor and get the intra Maldivian flights as a base point credit ;). The tragedy is, current planning will also likely earn me diamond on stays as well and I still have a VA diamond status match up my sleeve. I'd be keen to push my stays over to SPG but most of them will be in CNS, so no such luck there I'm afraid and even coughpy IHG have pulled out, so it really leaves Hilton.

I wonder if a HH diamond gets better upgrades if requalling via multiple methods?

There's also the option of a challenge. Earlier this year before my holiday I requested a Diamond challenge and was offered 10 stays or 16 nights in 90 days which gave me Diamond for almost 2 years. You can only do a challenge once but you can always create a new account and start again. I'm not sure what the requirement is for a gold challenge.

Gold challenge is 4 stays within 90 days

Oh geez, I didn't know that. US$10K ... easily done in a place like the Maldives if staying for more than just a couple of days.

If not on a redemption, then yes. Best to break it up into 2 stays under 2 accounts in that case.

Most redemptions should come in under 1k a day even with a paid upgrade.

Executive lounge had really good
canapés and drinks. The individual pots of thai chicken curry and rice were particularly delicious.
We had breakfast in the restaurant where the porridge was served with whisky
;).
