How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Nope. I'm 0 for 5 checking in upstairs

wow - that's terrible. worked for us probably 30% of the time.(same as you - late check out more important at times)..never anything when checked in downstairs

Property: DT Melbourne Flinders St
Status: Gold
Date: 2nd Dec 2016
Booked: Queen Guest Room
Recieved: King Guest Room

I always stay at the DT when in Melb. Never received an upgrade before I was able to choose a King room from digital check in and the message still came up that they will try to upgrade me at checkin - didn't happen.

I reminded them that I get points instead of breakfast as per the MyWay benefit and the crabby lady said she will see what she can do... umm what? Needless to stay I had to call customer service after my stay to get the points credited since I refuse to have breakfast there without proper coffee

We recieved bottled water and chocolate each day (3 nights / 4 days) and I got a cookie each day from a lovely chap named Hayden.

Overall I liked the room but should've stayed with the queen room. My view went from partial flinders st to the side of a building and some rooftops.

forgot to mention that at BNE 'turn down service' still exists!! i didn't have to request it - just came back from dinner and the curtains were closed, the bed turned down and a biscuit on the pillow...and slippers beside the bed!!

Staying at BNE tonight just got the turn down service without having to ask for it.

I love turn down service, particularly closing the curtains. I'm less likely to expose myself getting into bed after a few drinks in the lounge!

Did you ever had to ask? Haven't stayed there for a while (since I moved to BNE) but once I used to be regular guest and always got turndown in exec rooms.

was previously automatic, then went through a request only stage, but seems to be back as an auto again

As a newly minted HH Diamond and Marriott Platinum, I wasn't sure where to stay in Melbourne next weekend but the Flash sale combined with the Amex rebate made the HSW a good choice at $160/night for 2 nights for an Executive Room.

I have read a number of both good and bad reviews of their treatment of Diamonds. Should I lower my expectations about a Suite upgrade and decent breakfast?

I didn't ask. Some literature I was given in check on suggested I had to ask and I couldn't be bothered. Was a pleasant surprise when I got back to my room and it was done.

Booked: King Hilton guest room plus
Received: King Yarra Suite (18th floor)

Wasn't at all hopeful for an upgrade. Leading up the hotel was very booked out and two days out (and on the day) showed no availability. Checked-in in the lounge. No upgrade offered. I asked about an upgrade and was. Very happy.

Turn down service on 1 of the 3 nights. No bottles of water (Melbourne tap water is just fine so I didn't bother with it). Internet about 11Mbps symmetrical. Lounge offerings are the best in Australia (well compared to BNE and SYD).

Only thing missing from this hotel is a swimming pool.

On a side note, you can't really control the air-conditioner in the room. Ie, the temperature is set automatically and the only way to turn it entirely off is to get a service person to do so. Truly bizare.

I haven't posted in this thread for a while as my recent stays have all been pretty stock standard (not bad not amazing)

HSW last night.
Booked 1X Guestroom and 1X 2BR Suite for family.
Received: 1X Yarra suite and 1X 2BR Suite.

Canapes in the lounge pretty boring and breakfast this morning at the full buffet was rather terrible (usually HSW is great) Still very happy with the upgrades.

I always read in places like this that a post on their Twitter or Facebook pages elicit results...

I have previously used the on-line card request in my HHonors account. After quite a few requests, a card may turn up. Just keep requesting, and requesting, on-line:

My Account>Go to my account page>My HHonors card>Looking for a card to be mailed to you>Submit.

I believe it's only in the suites. You can only adjust the temperature 1-2 degrees higher/lower, more than that must call reception and they can do it from there.

Property: Hilton Sydney
Status: Gold
Date: December 2016 (1 night)
Rate: Flash sale
Booked: King Hilton Executive Room
Received: King Relaxation Room

Did OLCI day before, thought I would be overlooked for any upgrade. At Executive Lounge checkin they went to hand me the keys for my booked room, but upon asking whether any relaxation rooms were available was given the last one (website immediately sold out after). Very impressed, just wish I was staying more than one night.

Once again, it is worth asking. Dont complain if you haven't asked

I disagree. People ask and they're accused of being a DYKWIA ... don't ask and they're told they're at fault? Seems like a no win situation. The reality is, Hilton are meant to offer status customers an upgrade if available, without being asked! That's their own HH program Ts&Cs and it even states this clearly when OLCI is done. The problem with many (H-SYD is particularly bad) is that they fail to offer the best they can and then compound that by calling identical rooms something different and claiming it's an upgrade.
