How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Dang London hotels are really that expensive, eventually paying almost 400 AUD a night. Even Hampton Inns are 350 AUD in London...

Might as well take a 30 minute train ride to London and back if I ever go there haha

Hold on. I'm scratching my head on this one. Isn't the deal as a diamond you get a space available upgrade? So if there is a room available as paid option, surely you should get that for free as a diamond. What am I missing here?
Yep I’m with you on this one… if a paid upgrade is available then clearly a space available upgrade should be available to gold/diamond members.

Interesting, I noted that the Hilton T+C’s don’t guarantee a space available upgrade and this I expect some properties are leveraging to only offer some complimentary upgrades and push members towards the paid upgrades.

Note the usage of the word “may” in the T+C’s, implying the upgrades as not guaranteed.

Diamond Hilton Honors Members may receive upgrades to preferred rooms, based on availability at the time of arrival. Upgrades for Diamond Hilton Honors Members may include upgrades up to “junior”, “standard” or “one-bedroom” suites.

Some properties? More and more it seems and it’s Hilton (chain) pushing for this change. The “pay extra for an upgrade” function on the app check in is fairly new so clearly this is done on purpose.

Hilton Brisbane
Diamond
Booked: Guest Room
Received: Deluxe Room
1 night

Hotel was packed due to a conference while we were there. We weren’t charged any extra for the buffet breakfast and nil coffee tax either. Early check in of 1:30pm provided, didn’t need a late check out. 2 x waters and greeting card provided too.

I was hoping that @BEH's rate was for the stay, but kinda knew it was per night. Just didn't want to believe it.

I have that hotel booked in September for £163/n inclusive of tax. Double Guest Room Hilton Semi-Flex.

I assumed @BEH's rate was total for the stay. It was the cheapest 4+ star Hilton property within zone 1-ish for my dates (this is just outside).

Saturday 18/3
Status : Diamond
Hilton Gold Coast
Booked dlx King $438 ( sat nite and only room available)
Received King Relaxation Suite and full breakfast
Comment : A decent Hilton, Diamond desk at reception and at least 20 folks in the normal queue.
Room was clean and in good order with a nice balcony and water view.
Staff were all on the ball and the breakfast was also very good.

Ha.. mea culpa… otoh there is only one on the coast so…..

For now... in fact until recently the Residences (floors 16+) was managed as a separate property and had their own entry in the app.

Sunday 19 March
Status: Diamond
Property: Hilton Sydney
Room booked: King Guest
Rate: $239 govt
Received: Executive suite. 1pm late checkout (had to ask for this as initially only offered 12pm).

We were staying here just for one night for the Mrs to retain her Diamond status through the Last Call promo - Diamond renew was reflected in the app day after check out.

At Glass Breakfast on this occasion they asked if we wanted the free complimentary continental breakfast, or +$10pp for full buffet (not sure if it was just a new staff member pushing the company line, or actual new policy being enforced). Found this a bit odd as I had always been given full buffet without being asked. I know at check in occasionally a staff member will mention the +$10 buffet, but it was quite rare and never enforced on those previous occasions.

Wasn't particular hungryry this time so just said continental. But out of interest I did also test to see what would happen if we also ate the hot buffet - nothing happens, none of the floor staff seemed worried, but dont know if they were probably just focusing on their own jobs, or just turning a blind eye. Also no extra charge on final bill at check out. Keen to know people's experience on this going forward. (+$5 coffee tax still in place if you order barista coffee, this will be billed since they put it through the computer).

As we needed to check in manually at the SURFERS PARADISE Hilton due to some payment changes…we asked about breakfast options.
They were quite clear that we could have a Continental Breakfast in the executive room or have a full breakfast in the main Restaurant.
We also had a couple of Barista coffee's in the main restaurant for no fee but the process was glacial and not really worth the hassle.
As an aside , the exec room had pre booked scheduled seatings , every table used and presented as a bit of a Premium economy style zoo.
The only drinkable bottle of bubbles ran out and they said they were not allowed to open more…. I had a mouthful of the most promising red and gave up….

Stayed at Surfers recently. EL offered coughtail-of the day, spirits on request and do-it-yourself mimosas. Plenty of available tables in the EL. 😀

Took buffet breakfast in the restaurant for no up-charge. Coffee (paid) is better at Mis Margots rather than the restaurant free coffee.

I've always had the full restaurant breakfast included as Diamond - as well as Espresso coffee.

Sadly (or I guess, not) I now live at the Gold Coast and have a nice view of HSP from my balcony, so I don't think I'll be returning for quite a long time.

Sad to report Diamonds get treated same as any other guests at Hilton Queenstown. No upgrade from the most basic room, no early check in available, no executive lounge. Oh and also they don't participate in the "dine like a member" 25% discount offer.

All we got was one complimentary basic drink each. Thats for a 7 night stay, well over $2000. Almost afraid to ask what the breakfast situation is here.

My only stay there was a decade ago, but from memory breakfast was continental only, with a charge for the full buffet / hot options. I somehow doubt it's any better value today.
