How do I select seats on China Eastern?

I've booked a MU J redemption through QF and am trying to select seats online.

The website rejects my e-ticket number because it starts with 081.

Is there a trick to getting this done, or should I just give up now? It seems their website has not improved in recent years...

MU seat selection is sketchy at best on their site ( i never got it to work).

Some have reported success on czech airlines.

Personally i just went onto their wechat miniprogram and did it through the China eastern app. A couple of things about that - you will need to be able to read Chinese and I don't think it can be auto translated. It may also attempt to override any other FF you attach to it with the MU one.

The app is where most things gets done and in true Chinese 2024 fashion (many things in china are like this), it serves the majority of Chinese customers so they leave the rest of the people to the wayside as an afterthought. At some point they'll get around to fixing it....

Thanks for the tip! I wanted to avoid the mini-app because it forces you to register, and this redemption was for someone else. However, the Czech Airlines website worked fine, other than the weird display, and the seat showed up immediately on EF.

I currently do not have a subscription to EF so cannot check. Do you know if MU block R6 on the a350. Slightly off topic I booked flights SYD-PVG last night and this morning was struggling to select seats, I have experienced this prior to the 2020 events. I remembered I had recently read something about MU seat selection on this site and after a quick search I came back across this thread. I recall reading it and did not respond as I did not think I could add any value as our previous MU bookings I had asked SST if they could sort seating out and they did as they could either get into the MU seat selection or sent off a request, I cannot remember which. If that worked as a P1 maybe it would work for WP or others.

Back to the more relevant discussion, I did not bother calling QF and tried the Czech option the first couple of time selecting R6 A the seat assignment would not stick and I though any hack may have been plugged. I then looked at aeroLOPA seat map and went back to Czech site to see if anything would stick and gave 8A a go and it suck. I am assuming that MU may internally block seats for their high tier fliers or for other *S PAX that may show as being available on EF.

You don’t need a paid subscription to EF to check seat maps. Just create an account and you get four freebies a day.
