How do Qantas treat you as an elite?

Strange such divergent experiences. I always get the personal greeting (unless I am asleep), love the new J seats and am ok with the old coffin J seats.

In terms of who I would book now for J on OW:

QF A380
CX
BA
QF nonA380
Any other airline or alliance
RJ

Interesting that JAL isn't there. I've flown them both internationally and domestically and always found them very good.

I haven't flown them enough to give a real opinion. I have flown short haul J (HKG-NRT) long haul PE (LHR-NRT) and medium haul J (NRT-SYD) none of the J flights were good enough to be better than CX or QF nonA380 but not bad enough to be included in the RJ grouping.

Interesting!

My preference in J would be:

QF A380
QF 747 (upstairs)
Emirates A380
QF747 (downstairs)

Definitely CX in J for me, but I haven't been in the QF A380.

I haven't tried the 'new' CX J layout, but the QF A380 and 747 (upstairs) are definately better than the old (currently being replaced/upgraded) CX J - IMHO anyways ......

My preference (in J) would be QF then BA then CX. I'm always quite happy with the way I'm treated by QF, although I think, as someone else posted, the main benefit of status seems to be before flying. I find the CSM greeting only happens to me in J (and sometimes the CSM is just going round the whole cabin). e.g. I did a return PER - SYD over the last few days in Y and had no recognition or extra benefits over any other passengers. The WP1 service team was excellent beforehand in sorting out the award flights and accomodating some late changes.

I've been pretty lucky (about a 90% strike rate) with op-ups on full flights (domestic), about 40 times in the past year.
It only works if I chek in at the airport. If I check in online i seem to stay in Y

My best experience is when i had by boarding pass checked as i entered the aircraft (seating in row 4 on a 738, the flight attendent asked if I'd rather sit in row 2!

As a WP (all from lots of discount economy - i work for an NGO) I appreciate many small thoughtful things done by Qantas, as well as the more obvious things:
* Greeted by name when boarding
* The special greeting on-board. I don't ever ask for anything special, but still appreciate that recognition.
* The first class lounges in melb/sydney are a piece of civilised heaven for 18-35 hour trips I'm often making
* Avoidance of queues - check-in, immigration, boarding... so much of my life is travelling it's nice to get a break from waiting, waiting...
* Check-in staff treat you well, not as if a request is a hassle (which I got from Qatar just recently).
* Seating choice - particularly platinum shadowing - ok, that doesn't happen every time, I understand that. But nice when it happens.
* Flight crews in general on qantas are great and treat you well.
* The phone line for platinums - the staff go out of their way to sort out problems for me.
* When something goes wrong - an upgrade or gift voucher has often been forthcoming.
Add that all up and I go out of my way to book Qantas if the price is close.

I'd love more free upgrades. I save the points for my family who don't see enough of me.

The new CX J seat is absolutely fantastic. Got my best sleep in years on an aircraft. Very comfortable indeed and plenty of space.

One of the best if not the best IMHO. Compared (personally) to QF, DJ (VA), SA, NZ and SQ long haul.

And a few months down the track still no real complaints on how I am treated.

I did get another op-up to premium economy recently and this time had no personal greeting but did get what I would consider better service from the FA.

CX has been disappointing of late and on next trip I will be flying UL HKG-BKK (I think UL is joining Oneworld end of the year) and then trying out MH as an alternative to CX.

Fantastic service from the WP desk yesterday. We were booked on QF863 OOL-SYD and realised a couple of hours before that we would not likely make it ( driving from northern Sunshine Coast with very poor driving conditions due to weather and then a truck breakdown on north of the Gold Coast with large delays)
I called up and the entire family was re-booked on QF865 without fuss :)
The tickets were red-e-deal $48 specials. Very happy QF WP and will hopefully continue to be so.

thats good stuff, thats what you need. They do they same to me these days and I appreciate the gesture and not having the rule book thrown at you. Its called recognition.
