OK, I have to ask - why were you carrying 22 snowglobes

My daughter collects them... She has quite a collection now!:p

On the shaving side of things, I use American Crew shaving oil. I find it to be quite good lubrication, certainly enough for my hairiness and LAG happy too. From memory, it costs about $20-25 and that lasts me at 4-6 months...

Re the possibility of battery operated razors starting up in your luggage.

I have a very small Philishave travel shaver which I picked up years ago at Shaver Shop sale. Doesn't do a bad job either. I also travel with an Oral B battery toothbrush. Yes, I know it is a bit excessive for travelling, but I've gotten used to electric toothbrushes now and really prefer it.

When I pack to move on to the next place, I take the batteries out and put them in a ziploc bag with the razor or toothbrush. Handy also when they x-ray the bag, they can see the batteries separately. I also do that with my little maglite torch. Never have a problem at security now.

I managed to pick up a small rolling bag cheaply at John Little sale in Singapore a few years ago. It's nothing special and only cost me $A12, so I don't expect it to have a long life! But it only weighs 1.6 kgs. Reading through some of the comments here, I now think I can do a better job of packing it for carry on only trips in future. However, I don't do business trips so it is a bit easier for me. If that should change, well I still think I could manage ok, with the excellent information other members have posted.

Loved this thread....especially the perspective of the blokes! My most frequent trips involve less than 24 hrs overnight turnaround from west to east coast and return, so I have recently perfected the rolled up wardrobe that fits into a briefcase with the meeting papers and my iPad. Have seriously scaled down the toiletries and this makes a difference ;)

I think it's art! But my girlfriends seem to roll their eyes at my minimalist approach as they lugg their five pairs of shoes, three business suits and ten liters of "hair product" off the carousel:lol:

Airport>hotel>meeting>airport with in room meals, seriously, how many pairs of shoes do these gals really need ;)

If they are anything like my wife, the answer is three.

  1. The pair being worn,
  2. The pair packed and
  3. The pair thet wish they'd brought.

I am threatening my wife with carry on only for our XMAS holidays in China. She's threatening me with divorce.

She has managed 7 days overseas with carry on only going there ( ) but check in (a whole new suite case!) coming back...

Loosing shoes, hair product, straighteners, and whatever else gets packed can make transiting airports a lot easier hence me opening this thread :)
